PARENTS OF 17 CHILDREN FACE PRISON FOR KILLING 6 OF THEM IN HOUSE FIRE

PARENTS IN COURT OVER UK FIRE DEATHS

The parents of six children who died after a fire in their Derby home have fronted court.
EXACTLY nine years previously, Mick Philpott and his beaming bride Mairead stood side by side as they posed for their wedding photographs.

Yesterday they stood side by side once more, but this time they were in the dock accused of killing their six children in an arson attack.
In a crowded courtroom, they were branded "scum" and "bastards" by a woman screaming abuse from the public gallery.
Then they were led handcuffed to the cells and remanded in custody as detectives continued to piece together how and why the youngsters came to die at their home.
The Philpotts are jointly charged with killing five of their children on May 11, when Jade, 10, and brothers John, 9, Jack, 8, Jesse, 6, and Jayden, 5, all perished in the fire. The sixth name on the charge was Duwayne, 13, who died two days later in hospital.
Mairead, 31, had all those names tattooed on her right arm as she stood in the dock in a sleeveless white summer dress.
Mick Philpott, 55, shook his head from side to side when the charges were read. He leaned forward to blow a kiss to one of his relatives and mouthed an obscenity at detectives before leaving the court.
Three weeks ago he had been hailed as a hero credited with "valiant" attempts to save the children as fire swept through the three-bedroom council house in Allenton, Derby, in the Midlands of England.
Back in May 2003, when the couple married in a church near Derby, with four-year-old Duwayne as a pageboy and baby Jade as a bridesmaid, family and friends gathered to join the celebration.
Yesterday some of those same people were among 21 who filed solemnly into Court One at Southern Derbyshire Magistrate's Court to see the pair face accusations of murder.
The hearing – the first time the couple have been brought to court since being charged – began with the sound of footsteps and the rattle of chains as a door swung open into the dock. Mick Philpott walked in first. He wore tracksuit trousers and a sleeveless grey vest that showed off the tattoos on otherwise bare arms. A small, slight, man, he was dwarfed by the security guard to whom he was handcuffed.
It took just a few paces to get from one end of the dock to the other but he covered the distance with a slight swagger, like an amateur fighter entering the ring.
Mairead was led in behind him. Even away from the female guards who flanked her, she looked tiny.
Their address was given as a Premier Inn in Derby, with their house now a tragic, blackened crime scene.
Detectives have established the fire was started deliberately with petrol at the front door.
"Scum!" a woman shouted from the public seats yards from the dock. "Bastards! Scum!" Twenty-one heads in the family seats began to bob up over the rail to identify the source of the interruption. It was a thirty-something woman in dark glasses who had earlier been queuing outside with an grey-haired man in a vest.
Mick Philpott, arms folded, simply fixed the pair with a stare. The couple ignored presiding magistrate Kath Heap’s warning that she wouldn’t tolerate disruption, and police duly escorted them out.
No plea was entered and no application for bail was made by the couple, who were represented by different solicitors. The case was sent to be heard at Nottingham Crown Court today.
Mrs Heap told the couple they would be remanded in custody on grounds that they might interfere with witnesses, "and for your own protection".
Philpott, a father of 17 children by five women, became known as "Shameless Mick" in 2007 after demanding a larger house to share with Mairead, his girlfriend Lisa Willis and eight of his offspring.

Husband keeps dead wife in freezer for 10 years

Suspect, who runs a fish-processing company, abandoned the woman's body in a freezer at his working place

TOKYO: An 80-year-old man was being questioned in Japan on Wednesday on suspicion of strangling his wife and keeping her body in the freezer for up to 10 years, police and media reports said.
Masaichi Yamada, who runs a fish-processing company, was arrested in the northern Japan port of Kushiro early Tuesday when the frozen corpse - still fully clothed - was uncovered.
"The suspect maliciously strangled the victim with a string-like object at their home and abandoned her body in the freezer at his working place," a spokesman for police in Hokkaido told AFP by telephone.
It was not immediately known when the murder took place, the official said, adding the woman would have been 71 years old if she was alive today.
Yamada reportedly confessed to the police he killed his wife during an argument at their home "sometime between 2002 and 2006" and carried the body by car to the factory.
Police searched the factory after the dead woman's brother said he had not been able to contact his sister for several years. (AFP)

PASTOR DIES FROM SNAKE BITE WHILE PREACHING WITH A SNAKE

A Pentecostal pastor famed for handling snakes during church sermons has died after being bitten by a rattlesnake.

Mark “Mack” Wolford, 44, was well-known across the US state of Virginia for his lively church services, which included handling dangerous snakes in a ‘test of faith’. But the pastor died after being bitten by a rattlesnake he had owned for years, mirroring the death of his own father in 1983.

Holding an outdoor service in which serpents where passed around among church members, Wolford was bitten in the thigh by a yellow rattlesnake as he sat on the floor next to it. The service was quickly disbanded as the pastor was taken to family member’s house to recover, but he later died in hospital from poisoning.

Wolford had been bitten on three previous occasions, but did not seek medical attention as he regarded the injury as a test of faith.

“He helped me to understand the faith instead of just documenting it,” photographer and eyewitness Lauren Pond told the Washington Post. “He was one of the most open pastors I’ve ever met. He was a friend and a teacher.”

“I didn’t see the bite, I saw the aftermath” she added.

The group of serpent handlers follow the gospel of Mark, which states: “And these signs will follow
those who believe...they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.

MAN EATS UP ANOTHER MAN'S FACE,HIS GIRLFRIEND BLAMES ATTACK ON VOODOO

The girlfriend of a U.S. man who savagely used his bare teeth to rip into another man's face in Florida said he must have been under the influence of drugs or voodoo magic, local media reported Thursday.

The naked assailant, 31-year-old Rudy Eugene, was shot dead by police in Miami on Saturday after consuming almost the entire face of his victim, a 65-year-old homeless man.
Eugene's girlfriend, who asked not to be identified, told the Miami Herald that the man who carried out the attack bore no resemblance to the gentle man she was dating, and surmised that Eugene might have unwittingly been under the influence of drugs.
"The only other explanation was supernatural - that someone put a voodoo curse on him," the woman told the daily of Eugene, who is of Haitian descent.
"I don't know how else to explain this," she said. "He was a believer of God."
Eugene's mother, Ruth Charles, also subscribed to the theory that her son was under the influence of powerful drugs.
"Everybody says that he was a zombie, but I know he's not a zombie; he's my son. I don't know what they injected in him to turn him into the person who did what he did," she said.
News reports said the victim, identified as Ronald Poppo, remained hospitalized in serious condition.
Saturday's bloody spectacle unfolded near Miami's busy MacArthur Causeway, a low-slung bridge from the downtown area to nearby beaches.
Police ordered Eugene to stop his assault, and then fatally shot him when he continued to devour the face of his victim.
Poppo reportedly lost 75 percent of his face in the attack, including his eyes, nose, cheeks and mouth.

The nude assailant who almost killed another man over the weekend by biting his face off was identified Tuesday by Miami police, who said they are still in the dark about what provoked the bizarre and savage attack.
The aggressor, Rudy Eugene, 31, was shot dead by police who said he had devoured almost the entire face of his victim.
The unidentified homeless man, who also was naked during the attack, remains hospitalized and fighting for his life.
"We are expecting a report from our detectives to give more details to the media. We are also looking for more witnesses to this crime," a Miami police spokesman said. "The victim remains in critical condition."
The bloody spectacle unfolded mid-afternoon on Saturday, when police were alerted by the public as the attack was being carried out near Miami's MacArthur Causeway.
Police ordered Eugene to stop the assault, then fatally shot him when he continued to gnaw at the face of his victim.
Police initially said the attack could have been provoked by an overdose of a powerful new form of LSD, along with "cocaine psychosis."
Reports however Tuesday suggested Eugene was likely under the influence of the synthetic stimulant "bath salts" made with the active agent mephedrone, which produces an often aggressive, chaotic experience for users, coupled with intense hallucinations.
Authorities hope that the victim, if he survives, could help explain what precipitated the grisly attack.

7 things women do that drive men mad

Annoying female habit 1: Making an anniversary out of everything

What is it with women turning the nice little things in life into a grand gift-exchanging, champagne-popping ceremony? We return home from a normal day at work to be met with a candle-lit dinner and an expensive looking gift but, quite frankly, it makes our heart stop. Have you done something wrong? Is it your birthday? My birthday? Oh silly me, it’s the anniversary of the first time we looked at each other. Please refrain from doing this, ladies. We have a hard enough time getting event dates right without being shouted at for not buying the dog a card to celebrate the anniversary of his first vaccination.

Annoying female habit 2: Piling the bed with cushions

One would be mistaken for thinking that a bed is for sleeping in. We go to get our head down for the night, only to find the bed piled sky-high with strategically placed cushions that leave no room for us. What’s more, only a couple of these cushions actually have a purpose. We don’t need the tiny heart-shaped one or the big fluffy one that makes us sneeze – just a normal pillow to rest our head on will suffice. We don’t adorn the bed with DIY tools and model cars, so please tame your OCD (Obsessive Cushion Disorder) and stop making an elaborate display out of our bed so we can get down to the important stuff.
couple on bed of cushions having pillow fightcouple on bed of cushions having pillow fight

Annoying female habit 3: Asking us what we’re thinking

It’s a classic example of how women like to test us, and possibly trick us into making the cardinal sin of admitting that we weren’t thinking about her at that particular moment. One minute we’re enjoying a cuddle, the next they’re hurling that question at us when we’re least expecting it. They say it so fast that we don’t have chance to make up a false reply or even to think straight, which leads us to stutter and then be accused of thinking of our ex. Asking what we’re thinking is basically a nice way of saying ‘you aren’t allowed to have private thoughts, unless they’re about me’.

Annoying female habit 4: Saying ‘I’m fine’, when you’re not happy

So she stood in front of the television while the football was on, we got a bit iffy and snapped, and now all sorts of issues have been bought up. Then she says it – that passive-aggressive statement that marks the start of the dreaded silent treatment: “I’m fine”. Erm, are you really fine because you’ve just screamed at us until you’ve gone red in the face, and now you’re laying face down on the bed crying. If you’re unhappy just outline the problem and then we can sort it out and carry on as normal. Or – even better – don’t outline the problem and let us watch the football in peace.

Annoying female habit 5:  Using sex as a weapon

One of the most annoying things that a woman can do is deny her man of sexual privileges. Some women seem to take great pleasure in using our weakness to their own advantage through the classic ‘if you don’t do this, we’re not having sex’ scenario. If you’re going to stop us from doing one thing, please don’t let it be sex. We don’t stop you from eating and drinking, so please don’t mess with our basic human needs either.

Annoying female habit 6: Being over-emotional

You cry at funerals, you cry at weddings, you cry at happy films, you cry at sad films. This makes us feel awkward because we just don’t know what to say or do when you’re sat sobbing all over our freshly ironed shirt. Where do all these tears come from? We think women should just have an annual crying day where they get together and cry for twenty four hours, before coming home and being normal for the other 364 days of the year. It would solve a lot of our problems.

Annoying female habit 7: Incessant talking

We’ve heard that women are estimated to say around 20, 000 words a day – which is an awful lot compared to the paltry 7, 000 estimated for men – so we understand that she needs to get her daily nattering fix, but why is it always at the most inappropriate times? She was quiet all the way through the family dinner when we needed her to break the awkward silence, but as soon as we start getting to the competitive part of a multi-player game with our friends, she just won’t shut up about how cute the neighbour’s cat looks when it sits next to the rose bush. To make it even more annoying, the actual part of the story she was getting at whilst rambling on about the neighbour’s cat, was that the cat’s owner now works at the grocery store down the road. Ladies, if you’re going to talk, pick the right moment and please, just get to the point. Read more on realbuzz.com...

Prince William: My sadness that Diana was not at our wedding

The Duke of Cambridge has spoken for the first time of his sadness that his mother, the late Princess of Wales, was not at his wedding.

The Duke said last year’s Royal Wedding was the “one time” since his mother’s death in 1997 that he wished she could have been alive to bear witness.
In an interview with US television station ABC, due to be screened on Tuesday night, he said: “It’s the one time since she’s died, where I’ve … I’ve thought to myself it would be fantastic if she was here, and just how sad really for her, more than anything, not being able to see it.”
In the interview, with journalist Katie Couric, he also spoke of his sadness that his mother will never meet his wife.
He added: “I think she … she would have loved the day and I think, hopefully, she’d be very proud of … of us both for the day. I’m just very sad that she’s never going to get a chance to meet Kate.”
And The Duke revealed it was “very difficult” to prepare himself emotionally for the big day to ensure he did not break down.
He added: ““I sort of prepared myself beforehand so that I was sort of mentally prepared … I didn’t want any wobbly lips or anything going on.”
Prince Harry was also interviewed for the show ‘The Jubilee Queen with Katie Couric’. He too spoke about his mother’s absence at the wedding, but said he consoled himself with the thought that she was watching from above.
“I think she had the best seat in the house probably,” the Prince said, “But yeah, she would have loved to have been there.”
Harry also spoke of his nerves before and during the ceremony.
“I was massively nervous. Everybody was nervous,” he said. “The whole thing was a bit of a blur to be honest because there was God knows how many millions or billions of eyes focused on us. Luckily, mainly those two.”
During his interview Prince Harry also discusses what the Queen is like behind closed doors.
“In a small room with close members of the family, then she is just a normal grandmother. Very relaxed,” he said. “She obviously takes a huge interest in what we all do, that’s her children as well as her grandchildren. She wants to know which charities we’re supporting, how life is going in our jobs and such. So you know, she has a vested interested in what we do.
“When we were young it was very easy to take our grandmother for granted. She was just a grandmother to us. It’s only really sort of been over the last sort of five, eight to ten years that I’ve actually really learned to sort of understand and accept the huge deal that she is around the world, especially within the UK.”
Prince Harry, 27, toured as his grandmother’s royal envoy for the first time in March, visiting the Caribbean, Central and South America.
But he admitted he was a long way from taking on the sheer number of public duties the Queen performed at his age, shortly after she took the throne.
He said: “This tour itself has been a brief insight as to what she had to deal with at a very young age … what she’s achieved and what she’s done and at the age of 25 … confronted with the world’s media. And you can see it in her face now. You can see it in the way that she parades herself is just immaculate. And she’s learned it from all the years of experience.”
In the show The Duke also reveals that The Queen advised him to rip up an official list of invites to his wedding and start again with his friends.
He said: "I was given a list in the first meeting of 777 names, and not one of them on there I knew. So it was a bit daunting and it was like, well, that seems to be the guest list’s sorted, but no room for friends or family. And I wasn’t too happy about it. She said, ‘Ridiculous. Get rid of the list. Start from your friends.’”
