University sues student for graduating too quickly

Students generally are encouraged to stay on top of their work and remain on track with their studies but that doesn't appear to be the case with one German university.
This is because a pupil is being sued by his university after he completed his Bachelors and Masters degrees in around a quarter of the normal time.

Marcel Pohl completed a total of 60 examinations during his 20 months at the Essen-based School of Economics and Management (FOM).
He managed to achieve a grade of 2.3 but now FOM is suing Mr Pohl for loss of income after he completed his studies in August of last year.
Pohl managed to gain his degree in rapid time by dividing up simultaneous lectures with two friends before then swapping notes.
He also managed to complete an apprenticeship in a bank while studying.
'When I got the lawsuit, I thought it couldn't be true,' Pohl told the Bild newspaper.
'Performance is supposed to be worth something.'
His lawyer Bernhard Kraas added: 'We're always against slow students but when someone hurries and finishes early, suddenly he has to pay. That can't be right.'
A spokesman for the university said it didn't want to comment on the case before it had gone to court.

The man, who is identified only as Ramadan, began watching the film in an internet cafe and instantly collapsed in disbelief after spotting his wife on the screen.
Once he had come round from his initial surprise he saw that she was in 11 different films and rushed home to confront his unfaithful wife.
At first she reacted with anger and denied the allegations while swearing profusely at him, although she later admitted to starring in the film after Ramadan showed her the videos.
She confessed that the man in the films was her pre-marriage boyfriend, before adding that she had never loved her husband, despite being with him for 16 years and having four children together.
Ramadan told Egyptian newspapers: 'I found 11 films showing my wife in indecent scenes with her lover… it was the first time I watched a porno film and I did this just out of curiosity.'
After being found out by her husband, he claimed 'she then confessed to be still in love with her boyfriend, saying he is as young as her and that I am an old man'.
The man didn't say whether the couple were planning to divorce.

Cheating husband bumps into wife having affair at same hotel

A cheating husband who checked into a hotel with his mistress got the shock of his life – when his wife emerged from another room.
The man, who has not been named, allegedly told his wife he would be home late that night as he needed to supervise building work on their new house.

But he had no idea his wife had taken advantage of her free evening by booking a room for herself and her secret boyfriend at the same hotel, which is popular with people having affairs.
The truth came out only when the pair emerged in various states of undress after a power cut.
A witness, identified only as Salma, told Kenya’s Standard newspaper that ‘all hell broke loose’ when the furious pair realised their double deception.
The husband and wife reportedly ‘wrestled each other to the ground’ before being thrown out by hotel staff.
Salma said: ‘I saw the woman scream and grab her husband who slapped her hard out of fury.
‘The lovers, who were still in the rooms, were attracted by the loud confrontation but found man and wife tearing into each other.
‘They both quickly slipped through the door and disappeared into the darkness.’
The angry incident took place at the hotel, in the township of  Mlolongo, a few weeks ago.
Staff believe the couple were both regular clients at the roadside establishment.

BOY DROWNED IN BOILING WATER BECAUSE HE CAN IDENTIFY PARENTS' KILLERS

South Africa in shock over horror killings as parents are murdered in their own home and son, 12, is drowned in BOILING WATER

  • Sobbing child was tied up and gagged before being murdered in bath 'because he could identify them'
  • The three men assaulted the father with a golf club and blade before shooting both adults
  • Family dog had stomach cut open
  • Trio worked for the family and said killings were revenge for being badly treated

A 12-year-old boy was drowned in a bath of boiling water by robbers who raped his mother before killing both his parents in a violent house robbery.
Three men broke into the family's home in Walkerville, Johannesburg, where they assaulted and shot dead Tony Viana, 53, and brutally raped and killed his wife, Geraldine.
They then tied up and gagged the sobbing boy, Amaro, and pushed him into a bath of boiling hot water to drown him, 'because he would be able to identify them'.
The family’s gardener, Patrick Petrus Radebe, 24, their domestic servant’s son, Sipho Mbele, 21, pleaded guilty to three charges of murder and one charge of rape each, reported Sowetan Live.
David Motaung, 20, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to robbery charges.
They then left the South African court and walked back their cells laughing, according to Beeld newspaper.
The family dog was killed by having his stomach cut open.
The men’s lawyer told Vereeniging Regional Court that they had broken into the house to steal and to get revenge for the way they had been treated by 42-year-old Mrs Viana, their employer.
The court heard that Mr Viana arrived home at the house to be attacked with a golf club and a machete-like 'panga' and ordered to open the family's safe.

He was tied up and his wife and son, who arrived shortly after, were tied up in separate rooms.
Mbele then raped Mrs Viana while Radebe helped restrain her by standing on her face before raping her too. They then shot her with her husband’s gun before shooting him in the head too, reported praag.org.
The accused admitted they then realised Amaro would recognise him.

Their statement said: 'We went to the bathroom and turned on the tap. We went to [Amaro] him and gagged him because he was crying. We forced him into the bath face down, knowing that he would drown.'
According to Beeld, Mbele and Radebe admitted guilt on charges of burglary with the intent to steal, robbery with aggravating circumstances, the possession of an unlicensed firearm, the illegal possession of ammunition and intentional damage to goods.
From forensic evidence tendered in court, it was clear that the boy was held down in boiling water. The exact cause of his death has however not yet been determined by state pathologists. The boy’s hands and feet were tied.
The men will be sentenced on September 6.
Poignant pictures published on Facebook show the family, who are of Portuguese descent, relaxing together on holiday in the luxury South African resort of Sun City.

POLYGAMOUS MAN RAPED TO DEATH BY FIVE JEALOUS WIVES AS HE DOLE OUT MORE SEXUAL ATTENTION TO SIXTH WIFE

Hubby ‘raped to death’ by five jealous wives

undefinedIn an extraordinary development, a rich businessman from Nigeria met his death after his five jealous wives were up in arms as he was giving special attention to his brand new sixth wife.
The man was spending quality time with his youngest wife when the other five stormed his room with knives and sticks. Each of them demanded that their husband have sex with all of them as well, reports Daily Post.
The marathon romp proved to be too much for the man and he simply stopped breathing even before his fifth wife could be granted her conjugal rights in Ogbadibo, according to Nigeria’s daily.
The five wives allegedly ran into the forest when they realised their husband was dead.

KANU NWANKWO TO BE ASKED BY FORMER MANAGER,REDKNAPP TO COMPROMISE ON HIS £3M PAY CLAIM

Harry Redknapp has revealed that he will attempt to help save his former club Portsmouth from being shut down. Pompey have been set a deadline of 10 August by administrator Trevor Birch to have their finances in order or face going out of business.
The club's former manager Redknapp plans to speak to Nwankwo Kanu, who has lodged a claim for £3m in pay, to see if he can persuade the former Arsenal and Portsmouth striker to compromise.
Redknapp told ESPN: "I will be ringing Kanu today to see if there is anything I can do. I signed him for Portsmouth on a one-year contract and Tony Adams told me: 'You must be mad, he is finished.' Six years later, he is still there."
The defender Tal Ben Haim is also owed a similar amount in wages and Redknapp added: "In the case of Tal Ben Haim, if players have a contract and are owed money, you can see why they think they should get it. But if the club closes down they won't get a penny. They need to think hard about that."
Redknapp spent five seasons at Fratton Park between 2002 and 2008, guiding the club to a momentous FA Cup win in 2008.
"Portsmouth has got to be saved. It's a great club with great traditions," Redknapp added. "It would be a disaster if this club went out of business.
"It has great fans to the extent that, if you live in Portsmouth, you are a Portsmouth supporter. If you walk around in that town, you don't see people wearing Manchester United or Arsenal shirts.
"It is soul-destroying to see them in this predicament, and there must be a group of people out there or someone who could take over the club so cheaply and save them.
"I would love to see someone do that. Surely it cannot happen that Portsmouth go out of business. If someone did come in, the club could be resurrected quickly. It wouldn't take a lot to get it going again.
"I remember when Milan [Mandaric] came in and bought the club all those years ago, they were looking to lock the gates then and go into administration – but he turned it all around and made it work.
"When he sold the club, it spiralled out of control. Balram Chainrai put a lot of money in, but he must think it is the worst investment he ever made in his life. But now it just needs some people who understand football and who can work with the players."

Athletes from 53 African countries have been arriving in London ahead of Friday's opening ceremony for the 2012 Olympic Games.
So who among the continent's sportsmen and women are likely medal contenders?
BBC Africa's Farayi Mungazi picks the 10 African Olympians he thinks are in with a chance:

Segun Toriola - Nigeria: Table tennis player

Segun Toriola
Segun Toriola is Africa's most-decorated table tennis player. London 2012 will be his sixth Olympics - his first was Barcelona 1992.
In Beijing four years ago, he became the first African so far to make it to the quarter-finals.
The youngest of nine brothers, he plays professionally in France.
A former Commonwealth champion, he has also won every major honour in Africa, dominating the sport there for nearly two decades. But at the age of 38, London 2012 could well be his last Olympics.

Benjamin Boukpeti - Togo: Canoeist

Benjamin Boukpeti
Benjamin Boukpeti's bronze in the men's single kayak slalom in Beijing was the first Olympic medal in Togo's history.
He was also the first black man to win a medal in a slalom event.
Benjamin was born in France to a French mother and Togolese father.
He has struggled with injuries since Beijing, but enters his third Olympics with high hopes.

Kirsty Coventry - Zimbabwe: Swimmer

Kirsty Coventry
Kirsty Coventry holds the world record for the 200m backstroke and over her two previous Olympic Games she has won two gold medals, four silvers and a bronze.
The 28-year-old is seen as a national treasure in Zimbabwe - "our golden girl" President Robert Mugabe calls her - and has been voted African Swimmer of the Year five times.

Sifiso Nhlapo - South Africa: BMX rider

Sifiso Nhlapo
A former world silver and bronze medallist, Sifiso Nhlapo has represented South Africa at the World Championships a record nine times.
In Beijing - when BMX made its Olympic debut - he was in contention for a medal when he crashed out, but he still made the final.
The following year, he broke his neck in another accident - but if his body holds up, he is definitely one to watch.

Aya Medany - Egypt: Modern pentathlete

Aya Medany
After making her Olympic debut at the Athens Games in 2004, aged just 15, Aya Medany is now one of the most recognisable sports stars in Egypt.
Her sport - the modern pentathlon - demands that she fence, swim, ride horses, run and shoot.
Her religious beliefs demand she do it wearing specific clothing.
She is the only elite pentathlete who competes wearing a hijab.
London 2012 is her third Olympics and she is on a mission to better the eighth position she achieved in Beijing.

Caster Semenya - South Africa: 800m runner

Caster Semenya
When Caster Semenya stormed to victory at the World Championships in Berlin in 2009, she also ran into a storm of speculation over whether or not she was female.
But although she has struggled to reproduce her world-beating form of 2009, she has been talking up her chances of breaking the 800m world record - the longest standing women's world record in the sport - set in 1983.
This is her first Olympic Games.
And with former world and Olympic champion Maria Mutola as her coach, Semenya is in good hands.

Tirunesh Dibaba - Ethiopia: 5,000m and 10,000m runner

Tirunesh Dibaba
Defending Olympic champion at both 5,000m and 10,000m, Tirunesh Dibaba is regarded by many as the fastest finisher in the history of women's distance running.
Since the Beijing Olympics, she has struggled with injuries - leading to lengthy lay-offs from running.
But her form suggests she may be on the way back to her best.
One of the most-anticipated events of London 2012 is her clash with fellow Ethiopian Meseret Defar and the formidable Kenyan Vivian Cheruiyot.

Amantle Montsho - Botswana: 400m runner

Amantle Montsho
The world, Commonwealth and African champion, Amantle Montsho will be chasing her country's first Olympic medal so far in London 2012, her third Olympic Games.
In Athens she failed to get beyond the heats, in Beijing she made the final, but in London she is the favourite for gold.
Her strength and speed have improved considerably since Beijing and she is now the woman to beat over one lap.
She has said that an Olympic gold medal would mean everything to her and she is extremely light on her feet.

Mary Keitany - Kenya: Marathon runner

Mary Keitany
Three years ago, Mary Keitany caught the world's attention by winning the World Half-Marathon Championship.
She followed that up by smashing the world record for the distance - a record she still holds.
Since she stepped up to the full marathon distance, she has been just as impressive.
Two third places in New York came either side of a stunning victory in London in what was the fourth-fastest time in history.
It is that track record that makes her one of the favourites for gold at London 2012.

David Rudisha - Kenya: 800m runner

David Rudisha
World champion and world record holder, David Rudisha has dominated the 800m for the past two years.
In August 2010, he broke the world record twice inside a week and then took gold at last year's World Championships in South Korea.
And the lanky Kenyan is the red-hot favourite to add the Olympic title to his collection.
London 2012 will be his first Olympic experience - he missed out on Beijing through injury.
His father, Daniel, won silver in Mexico City in 1968.
