Alluvium Unveils Strategy To Showcase Nigeria's Vibrant Cultural- tourism Globally

Alluvium Unveils Strategy To Showcase Nigeria's Vibrant Cultural- tourism Globally

...Uses Vegas tech global event as template.

Nigeria's vibrant cultural- tourism landscape is set to take center stage on a global scale. The country's Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, Ministry of Tourism alongside their commissioners across its various states, are actively promoting the export and celebration of the diverse indigenous cultures within its regions.

This initiative builds upon Nigeria's established influence on the world stage. From the electrifying beats of Afrobeat music, captivating audiences worldwide, to the literary acclaim of Chinua Achebe, Wole Soyinka, and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Nigerian art forms have a long history of captivating international attention.

Recognizing the immense wealth within its diverse cultural- tourism landscape, Nigeria aspires not only to preserve this rich heritage but also to share its beauty with the international community. This vibrant tapestry of traditions, encompassing everything from breathtaking aesthetics to captivating stories, deserves a global spotlight, whether it's experienced through tourism or the export of cultural goods.

The Nigerian government acknowledges the success stories of Nigerian brands on the world stage. From tech giants to fashion houses, these companies have become cultural ambassadors in their own right, showcasing Nigerian excellence across various industries.

A recent example is Alluvium HQ, a Nigerian tech company, which leveraged its sponsorship of the Atlassian Team 24 event in Las Vegas to showcase Yoruba culture, a vibrant tradition from southwest Nigeria.

It'll interest you to note that a notable feature about the Yoruba is their traditional clothing which includes the 'fila', a traditional cap worn by the men, and the 'gele', a headgear worn by the women. The 'fila' and 'gele' are worn as a symbol of pride by the Yoruba and come in different fabrics and styles.

These headgears, the 'fila' and 'gele' were the trademark style at Atlassian's Team 24. Hundreds of pre-sewn headgears were worn by visitors at the event, alongside wallets and clothes made with the famous 'Ankara', a popular type of material in the West African country. Almost everywhere you turned was a 'fila' or 'gele'. Hundreds of attendees experienced a taste of Nigerian heritage firsthand.

Alluvium's initiative serves as a powerful example of the potential for collaboration between Nigerian brands and government bodies. The Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, Ministry of Tourism  along with their  state-level counterparts, can partner with such brands for global cultural promotion.

This collaboration could take on various forms. Imagine joint sponsorships with Nigerian brands at international events, ensuring cultural representation through traditional attire, decorations, and performances. Partnerships could be formed to celebrate Nigerian holidays and cultural events, promoting national brands and products alongside the rich cultural heritage being celebrated.

Marketing campaigns that utilize local languages and imagery can foster a deeper connection with target audiences and promote cultural pride. The government's sponsorship for the production of local souvenirs and clothing can further advertise indigenous cultures and generate economic opportunities.

Alluvium HQ has ignited a spark, paving the way for a new approach. Now, Nigeria's Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, Ministry of Tourism their alongside state-level  ministries, have an exciting opportunity to leverage this strategy.

By partnering with Nigerian brands on the global stage, they can effectively showcase the nation's vibrant cultural tapestry to the world, ensuring its rich heritage finds a wider audience and appreciation.

This collaborative effort has the potential to not only raise awareness of Nigeria's cultural richness but also stimulate economic growth through cultural tourism and the export of cultural goods. As Nigerians share their stories and traditions with the world, they open doors for cultural exchange and understanding, fostering a more connected global community.

How Lawyers Can Live Long By Wale Ojo- Lanre Esq

 How Lawyers Can Live Long

By

Wale Ojo- Lanre Esq

Distinguished members of the Ado Ekiti Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, ladies, and gentlemen, it is a great honor and privilege to be invited to this esteemed gathering to share my thoughts on why lawyers should embrace tourism and the benefits of taking a well-deserved rest or vacation.

As the Director-General of the Ekiti State Bureau of Tourism Development, I have had the opportunity to witness firsthand the transformative power of tourism and the immense value it can bring to individuals, communities, and our beloved profession of law particularly how this act can lubricate and facilitate living long on the face of the Earth.

My esteemed colleagues, I stand before you today to convey a simple yet profound message: tourism is not just a leisure activity, but a vital component of a balanced and fulfilling life.

In our noble pursuit of justice and the upholding of the rule of law, we often find ourselves consumed by the demands of our profession, juggling a multitude of cases, deadlines, and client expectations. While this dedication is admirable, it can also lead to a state of burnout, where our mental and physical well-being are compromised, ultimately affecting our ability to deliver the exceptional service our clients deserve.

This is where the power of tourism comes into play. By embracing the art of travel, exploration, and leisure, we can unlock a world of benefits that extend far beyond the confines of our legal practice.

Firstly, tourism provides us with the opportunity to rejuvenate and recharge. Stepping away from the daily grind of our work allows us to clear our minds, gain a fresh perspective, and return to our practice with renewed vigor and creativity. Imagine the impact this can have on the quality of our legal work, the level of service we provide, and the overall satisfaction of our clients.

Secondly, tourism broadens our horizons and exposes us to diverse cultures, customs, and ways of life. This exposure not only enriches our personal experiences but also enhances our professional capabilities. As lawyers, we are often tasked with navigating complex legal landscapes, and the insights we gain from our travels can inform our decision-making, problem-solving, and ability to connect with clients from various backgrounds.

Thirdly, tourism is a powerful tool for stress management and work-life balance. By taking regular vacations, we can create a healthy separation between our professional and personal lives, allowing us to recharge and rejuvenate. This, in turn, can lead to improved mental health, reduced burnout, and a more sustainable career in the legal field.

My esteemed colleagues, I implore you to embrace the transformative power of tourism and make it an integral part of your professional and personal lives. Embark on adventures, explore the wonders of our state and nation, and immerse yourselves in the rich tapestry of Ekiti's cultural heritage. I can assure you that the rewards will be immeasurable, both for your well-being and the success of your legal practice.

And luckily, Ekiti State is a paragon of tourism as it hosts many exciting sites such as the Ikogosi Warm and Cold Springs, the Arinta Waterfall, I pole Iloro, the Fajuyi Park, the Ogun Grove, the Source of Osun Osogbo, the Palm tree with 42 heads, the Hiking Spots, the Oke Igeti, the home of Ifa, the healing water fountain of the late Apostle Ayo Babalola, the Planetarium at Afe Babalola University, the Abanijorin Rock of Wonders.

Some of these wonderful sites are not only friendly but have been touched up by Governor Biodun Oyebanji.

In closing, let us remember that the pursuit of justice is a noble and demanding calling, but it requires us to care for ourselves as much as we care for our clients. By embracing tourism and prioritizing rest, we can become better versions of ourselves, more effective advocates, and true champions of the law.

In a practical demonstration of this call, the Ekiti State Bureau of Tourism Development is joyfully willing to support the 2024 Law Week of NBA Ado Ekiti Branch with a day at the spectacular, Arinta Waterfall, Ipole Iloro Ekiti on Saturday.

Thank you, and may our 2024 NBA Ado Ekiti Branch be filled with wonder, discovery, and a renewed passion for our beloved profession.

Lola Ade John ! Tourism Minister living up to expectation .

By

Wale Ojo- - Lanre Esq

I  cannot help but acknowledge the exceptional performance of Mrs. Lola Ade-John, the Minister of Tourism in Nigeria, within the last four months of her appointment. Despite being indisposed for eight weeks, she has proven herself to be a visionary and dedicated leader who is passionate about driving the growth of tourism in the country.

First and foremost, Minister Lola Ade-John has made history as the first Minister of a standalone Tourism Ministry in Nigeria. This demonstrates her commitment to elevating the importance of tourism and its vast potential to contribute to economic development and job creation.

One of her standout achievements has been her adoption of Community Tourism. By recognizing the value and impact of engaging local communities in tourism initiatives, she has paved the way for sustainable development and empowerment at the grassroots level. This approach not only preserves the cultural heritage of Nigeria but also ensures that the benefits of tourism are shared among the people.

Notably, Minister Ade-John has traveled tirelessly across the country, spreading the tourism gospel of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Within just eight weeks, she visited over 12 states, promoting the rich and diverse tourism offerings of Nigeria. This bold and proactive approach has helped showcase the country's unique attractions to both domestic and international visitors, ultimately boosting the tourism industry.

In addition to her extensive travels, the Minister has initiated and supported several sustainable tourism policies. Key among these is the introduction of the Eco-Genesis Incubator Programme, which encourages environmentally friendly tourism practices. Furthermore, the Mobile Culinary Event and Community Tourism initiatives have breathed new life into the sector, enticing visitors with immersive experiences and fostering economic growth in local communities.

Minister Ade-John's dedication to collaboration and inclusiveness in the tourism sector is evident through her revival of the National Meeting of Tourism Ministers and Tourism Commissioners. By re-establishing this platform for dialogue, she has facilitated effective communication and synergy among key stakeholders, ultimately leading to more coordinated efforts towards the development of the tourism industry.

Moreover, the Minister has displayed her commitment to long-term planning and strategic vision by instituting a Committee for the review of the National Tourism Master Plan. This forward-thinking approach ensures that Nigeria's tourism policies align with global best practices and are tailored to meet the specific needs and aspirations of the country.

Furthermore, Minister Ade-John has engaged in fruitful dialogues with strategic stakeholders and private tourism associations. Her ability to network and collaborate with various actors in the tourism industry has fostered partnerships that drive innovation, investment, and job creation. Additionally, she has actively sought to integrate the tourism sector with other financial institutions in the country, further strengthening its foundation for sustainable growth.

In just four months, Minister Lola Ade-John has demonstrated remarkable leadership, implementing transformative policies and initiatives that have already begun yielding positive results. Her impressive performance has vindicated and justified her appointment by President Tinubu, who recognized her exceptional qualifications and expertise in the field of tourism.

I  extend my  sincere gratitude to President Tinubu for appointing Minister Lola Ade-John and recognizing the need for a right peg in a right hole.

Her competence and passion for driving the tourism sector forward make her a perfect fit for the role. Under her able leadership,  I am  confident that Nigeria's tourism industry will flourish and contribute significantly to the nation's socio-economic development.

New NANTA President ! Why I don't pray for your success By Wale Ojo- Lanre Esq

New NANTA President ! Why I don't pray for your success

By

Wale Ojo- Lanre Esq

Mr Yinka Folami.

Though I am not happy that you won the election there is nothing I can do about that.

The great members of NANTA have spoken.

The majority has carried the day.

Though I don't pray for your success, however,I owe it a duty to write you this letter not to rejoice with you but to release to you my innermost concern for the Association which some of us have contributed immeasurably to its emergence as one of the strong pillars of tourism in Nigeria.

I know this letter finds you in utmost good form rejoicing over your success at the election the fact that you triumphed over your adversaries  and the fact that you  put those of us who interrogated your fitness for the post to shame

However, I don't see  your recent election as the President of the National Association of Nigerian Travel Agencies (NANTA) as the moment where the beauty stopped, rather I  see it  as an honor and a national call to address the disequilibrium that has retarded the growth of NANTA beyond this level

I appreciate the fair and democratic election process that resulted in your assumption of this great position despite the adverse prayers from some of us.

However, I must candidly admit that I was one of the individuals who opposed your election bid. I believe that the association must have a President who can unite the diverse voices and perspectives within our community.

In light of this, I kindly request you to take the necessary steps to convince those of us who initially had reservations about your suitability for this esteemed post.

Here are a few suggestions to help bridge the gap if you think they are worthwhile.

Community Tourism: Enhancing Tourism Development from the Grassroots - Benefits and Importance By

Community Tourism: Enhancing Tourism Development from the Grassroots - Benefits and Importance

By

Wale Ojo- Lanre Esq

Tourism has become a significant contributor to the economy of many countries, providing employment opportunities and generating revenue. While traditional tourism often focuses on popular destinations and attractions, community tourism presents a unique approach that empowers local communities and enhances tourism development from the grassroots. This article will discuss the concept of community tourism, its benefits, and its importance in fostering sustainable and inclusive tourism.

It is an article I decided to make public after watching the Minister of Tourism, Mrs Lola Ade - John on the screen while unveiling her Ministry's policy for the Nation

I must commend and acknowledge Mrs Lola Ade- John for her strides at the Ministry in the last few months .

Her activities have depicted her as a very diligent and patriotic public officer who is out to serve the nation earnestly and responsibly

She understands the uniqueness of Nigeria geographical  tourism contraptions - which is grassroots based and hence coming out with the gospel according to community Tourism

Thus let us understand this gospel of hers by asking what is Community Tourism

Community tourism, also known as community-based tourism or local tourism, involves the active participation of local communities in the planning, development, and management of tourism activities. It aims to promote local culture, heritage, and resources while ensuring that the benefits of tourism reach the grassroots level.

This is one of the reasons why developers of Tourism Master Plans always emphasize the involvement of  members of rural communities

This is to underscore the

benefits of Community Tourism

For Community Tourism enhances  empowerment and shores  poverty alleviation programmes

Community tourism enables local communities to participate in decision-making processes, giving them a sense of ownership and empowerment. By involving community members in tourism activities, it creates employment opportunities and helps alleviate poverty in these areas.

Members of the communities would be aware of the import of what they have and thus develop affectionate behavioural patterns that will encourage tourists flocking to their areas.

With the understanding of what tourism is and its advantages ,members of the  communities will naturally strive to  preserve their  Culture and Heritage which they have seen as economic products for

Community tourism emphasizes the preservation and promotion of local culture and heritage. By engaging tourists in local traditions, festivals, and handicrafts, it helps preserve these elements and pass them on to future generations.

Also , this will tasks the environmental consciousness of members  of  the communities. For  Community tourism often takes a sustainable approach, ensuring that natural resources are conserved. Locals become more aware of the importance of protecting their environment, and initiatives such as eco-tourism and responsible tourism practices are prioritized.

Also , community-based tourism helps stimulate economic growth in local areas. Small-scale enterprises, such as homestays, local restaurants, and artisanal shops, benefit from increased tourism activities, generating income for the community.

Community based tourism helps to lubricate cultural exchange and authentic Experiences: Travelers are increasingly seeking authentic experiences, and community tourism provides opportunities for cultural exchange between visitors and locals. Tourists gain a deeper understanding of the local way of life, traditions, and customs, while community members interact with visitors from different cultures.

One cannot ignore the importance of Community Tourism

Community tourism promotes inclusivity by involving diverse members of society, including marginalized groups, in tourism activities. It fosters social cohesion, bringing together people from different backgrounds and promoting mutual understanding.

It also offset overtourism which traditional tourism encourages  by  concentrating  on popular destinations, leading to issues of overtourism. By encouraging visitors to explore lesser-known communities, community tourism helps distribute tourism activities more evenly, reducing the negative impacts of overcrowding in heavily visited areas.

Community-based tourism aligns with the principles of sustainable development by emphasizing the preservation of natural and cultural resources. It promotes long-term planning, ensuring that tourism development is environmentally friendly, economically viable, and socially beneficial.

Through community tourism, new and unique tourism products and services can be developed. This enriches the overall tourism industry by offering travelers a wider range of experiences while also encouraging creativity and innovation within local communities.

Conclusively, Community tourism plays a crucial role in enhancing tourism development from the grassroots. By empowering local communities, preserving culture and heritage, and promoting sustainable tourism practices, it ensures a more inclusive, authentic, and responsible tourism industry. Governments, tourism stakeholders, and travelers themselves should recognize the importance of community tourism in creating a balanced and sustainable tourism environment that benefits both locals and visitors alike.

One needs to salute the tourism sagacity of Mrs Lola Ade - John for being proactive and diligent at her duty post by domesticating tourism policy

The idea of Community Tourism will not only enhance the appreciation of tourism as a potent economic force but stokes the embers of tourism development at the grassroots.

Kudos ,Lola Ade - John .
