'KILL HIM,HE IS NOT YOUR SON,SO I HIT HIM HARD IN THE NECK SEVERAL TIMES'-SAYS MAN WHO KILLED 1 YR OLD SON AND BURNT WIFE WITH PRESSING IRON
Henry Nnadi, the 38- year-old dry cleaner that killed his 1-year-old son, Ebuka, and burnt his wife, Mercy,36, with hot iron for allegedly sleeping with his 65-year-old father, has finally spoken on the circumstances that led to his beastly act from the confines of his prison cell at Kirikiri, Lagos.
Looking remorseless over the pains he inflicted on his wife of two years, the fair-skinned Henry only showed regrets when the issue of his dead son came up. “That was the worst thing I have ever done in my entire life. When he woke up crying for milk, I looked at him in anger and a voice came saying kill him, he is not your son. In obedience to that voice, I hit him hard on the neck several times.”
Insisting that he was unsure of the paternity of the boy, Henry gave vivid details of what transpired on the fateful Saturday, April 7, 2012. Excerpts:
“I am sure of what I am talking about. My wife, Mercy has been sleeping with my father. Before the incident, I have cautioned her to stop going to my father’s house because I suspected their moves . But she wouldn’t listen. Then one day, when she was about going out, I told her not to leave the house but she disobeyed me and went out. I waited for a while before going straight to my father’s place which is not far from where I live .
And to confirm my claim, immediately I arrived there, I knocked and my father opened the door with a towel round his waist. As I made to go in, he prevented me by blocking the entrance with his hand. I do not know how my wife managed to escape . But after waiting for a while, I left and immediately I got home, my wife had reached the house, I laughed and went to smoke to cool my temper. I was keeping all that in mind until that Saturday night.
“As I was ironing my customer’s clothes, I looked at my wife where she was sleeping on the bed and anger surged inside of me. I then heard a voice instructing me to go and ask her why she was sleeping with my father. By then, the iron was very hot and I thought I could use that to scare her.”
Burning her with the hot iron
I woke her up and asked her to tell me the truth on how many times she had slept with my father. But she refused to talk. Then the voice came to me again to place the hot iron on her and I did. As I was placing it, she told me she had slept with my father three times.
Immediately she mentioned it, I lost my cool and placed it harder on her out of anger. At that point, the child cried, wanting to suck breast. I looked at him wondering if I was actually his father. I thought to myself that it could be possible my father was responsible for the pregnancy that resulted in his birth.
How I killed my son
At this point the suspect kept quiet, bowed his head, shaking it intermittently in self pity. And when he raised his head, his eyes were filled with tears. Thereafter, he rested his chin on his palm and looked at the sky, muttering. After a long pause, this reporter asked him if he actually killed his son.
In reply, he said, “ that is the worst thing I have ever done in my entire life. When Ebuka woke up from sleep that night, crying for breast milk as he always did, I looked at him in anger and the voice came again saying , ‘kill him, he is not your son!’. In obedience to the voice, I hit him hard in the neck several times.”
Asked to described exactly how he did it, he raised his right hand like a boxer, hitting it severally on his left arm, causing this reporter to move backward, for fear of the unknown.
Continuing, he said, “You know he is a baby and very fragile. When my fist landed on him the first time, he screamed. At that point, the mother lifted her hand to prevent my next fist from landing on the boy , but I planted the hot iron on her hand”. Henry, reportedly landed another fist on the little helpless creature . At the third hit, Ebuka, as gathered, could no longer cry. He was still .
When Henry was asked why he was always beating his wife as claimed by neighbours, he admitted that they have had series of quarrel, most of which was caused by his wife’s alleged clandestine relationship with his father. He posited however that “there is no way a man and a woman would live under same roof without quarreling. It is impossible. Yes, we quarreled and settled” .
Asked if he had any regrets for his action, he replied, “sure , I do, mainly because of the death of my son. Why should a child be killed over an offense he knew nothing about? His death will continue to haunt me all the days of my life. I may not live to even atone for this sin but if by sheer providence I do, I will never forgive myself for taking the life of my innocent boy.
All this is the handiwork of the devil. If I had known, I would have not touched my son that night. I know I am going to die because I have killed my son. If it had been my wife, I would not have bothered much . But my son, ah! I have done the unimaginable” he stated in an emotion- laden tone.
When contacted for his reaction to his son’s claim, 65-year- old Theodore Nnadi described the allegation as baseless and unimaginable, wondering how a father could stoop so low as to sleep with his daughter in-law. The light skinned man swore with both visible and invisible substances, denying ever having any feeling of such towards a woman he considered as a daughter. The father of eight who said his name had been dragged in the mud following the allegation and wondered how on earth a son could mete such injustice on his father.
Recalling with pains how he tried all he could to give his son, Henry, a good future, Pa Nnadi revealed that signs of his present predicament reared its ugly head after Henry’s secondary school.
Hear him, “ After his secondary school , he began to move with irresponsible people and street urchins . In order to keep him busy, I took him to a school of engineering where he specialized in factory generator repairs. But before I knew it, that turned out to be my greatest undoing as he went into snatching of motorcycles from riders.
“He would mount a motorcycle, give the rider his destination. But midway, he would pour pepper into the rider’s eyes, causing him to loose balance and in the process make away with the motorbike and sell same at give -away price. He was arrested in one of the occasions and was imprisoned for eight years.
After he finished serving his jail term, I took him to a church where deliverance was carried out on him. Before everybody in the church, he promised never to go back to his past again. After that, he started the dry cleaning job.”
I warned his wife
“After the introduction ceremony and the wife moved in with him, I started getting series of report on how he was maltreating her. Several times, the matter was reported at Ago police station where he was made to write undertaken never to raise his hand on her again. But he never complied. When the beating became unbearable, I personally told his wife never to return to my son when she traveled to her village last year. She stayed for a while, only to come back because my son, as I later learnt, went to beg her.”
Asked if he actually slept with his daughter-in-law, Mr Theodore screamed in anger, “ how can that be? That is an abomination! Before God and man, I never did that. Ah! This child wants to take me to an unprepared grave. I reject that. It is not my portion .I can never try such disgusting thing in my life. Oh my God, at this age?His intention is to soil my name. Go and ask about me where I live, or even from the village I come from. This is unimaginable. Come to think of it, I have a wife.”
Also asked to clarify his son’s claim that he met his wife in his house where the father blocked the entrance, Pa Nnadi replied, almost in tears, “Only God will judge this matter. This child is a bad child. The wife used to sell pap and she usually brings it to my house where she sold to my wife .
Whenever she is leaving my house, my wife would give her some ingredients because my son was not taking care of her and their baby. For instance, when she gave birth to my grandson , Ebuka, it was one of my daughters that brought out N120,000 for the delivery bill because she gave birth through caesarian. But do you know what happened, my son, Henry, stole out of that money from where it was kept and when asked, he argued that the money was too much, that it ought to have been given to him to buy a motorcycle.
He is a pain in the neck. In fact, he had beaten me before in public, simply because I reprimanded him for fighting with his cousin. Since that incident, my people vowed never to visit his house again. I swear to God, I never did that abominable act. I have passed such stage. Besides, I am a God fearing man. Come to think of it, (grins) I live in that apartment with my wife and my other children. How on earth would that happen”?
Emotions, promises, pour in for burnt housewife
Meanwhile, following Mercy’s story published in Vanguard, some concerned Nigerians and groups have continued to call in, signifying their interest to assist Mercy with the medical bill and a possible transfer to another hospital. Among those that called were Zahara Women Foundation, CENTA For Organizational Development, Bimbo Odukoya Foundation and other individuals from different parts of the country and beyond. But none of them, as at Thursday morning, had made any monetary donations.
For Bimbo Odukoya’s Foundation, it promised to visit mercy at the hospital on Thursday evening with a view to carrying out on the spot assessment and proffer possible medical solution.
Zahara Women Foundation on its part, promised to visit the victim yesterday, (Friday),where its co-ordinator who called in from Canada said the foundation would do all within its reach to give Mercy legal backing as well as playing a role on her medical expenses.
Dr Eze of New Revolution hospital located in Ago, Okota area of Lagos hinted that although Mercy was responding to treatment, there are fears that some sensitive parts of the affected area were still to get healed. “For instance, her breast and chest region and her thigh close to the vagina are part of the critical areas.”
Vanguard Crime Guard observation revealed that fluid was still pouring out from under the breast , which seemed to be defiling treatment. The cause, as gathered, was because it was not exposed to air. As a result, the region is always damp with the burns causing sores. She is still going through excruciating pains, with serious anesthetics being administered to her on daily basis.
But the doctor assured that things would take its normal shape with time, disclosing that part of the burns on her back, stomach and hand were getting healed. The doctor also disclosed that as at Thursday evening, only N60,000.00 has been donated by a lady who pleaded anonymity.
But for Mercy to get back quickly on her feet again, she needs funds, first to clear the backlog of close to N600,000 which the hospital claimed was her medical bill. Out of this amount, the hospital said Mercy’s father in-law was only able to pay the sum of N50,000. Presently , Pa Theodore who owns a mini boutique along Ago-Palace Way is finding it difficult to foot the bill.
Crime Guard reliably gathered that the 65-year-old man had resorted to borrowing from people in order to ensure Mercy gets back on her feet again. Plans, as gathered, is on the pipeline to open an account for Mercy where well- meaning Nigerians are enjoined to pay in their widow’s mite, as this will, no doubt, go a long way in ensuring Mercy’s speedy recovery.
And if this is not done on time, there are fears that the burns, particularly in the sensitive areas, could be affected, which unfortunately, can be disastrous for the helpless woman.
Meanwhile, her husband has been charged to the Ebute-Meta magistrate court, where he appeared last Tuesday. But the case could not be heard as his file with charge no G/23/2012 was referred to the Directorate of Public Defender (DPP) for advice.
However, while waiting for the account to be opened, concerned individuals can make their donations in person to the hospital- New Revolution hospital located in Ago, Okota, Lagos or reach Vanguard Crime Editor through: emmadozie@hotmail.com or 08023145281.

MAN RAPES 10 YEARS OLD DAUGHTER THEN SET HER ON FIRE
By HURST LAVIANA
Updated: 2012-04-27T03:32:36Z
Chris Newberry
A Wichita man was sentenced Thursday to life plus 133/4 years in prison for raping his 10-year-old stepdaughter and setting her on fire in an attempt to kill her.
Chris Newberry, 31, pleaded guilty to rape and attempted murder in September 2009 but was then sent to the Larned State Hospital for psychiatric treatment. He was released after doctors deemed further treatment unnecessary.
Newberry also was sentenced to 61 months in prison on each of four counts of aggravated arson. District Judge Jeff Goering followed a plea agreement and ordered those sentences to run concurrently with the others.
Wichita police said Newberry doused his stepdaughter with lighter fluid before setting a fire that heavily damaged his family’s mobile home on March 14, 2009.
Newberry’s wife and three other children, ages 2 to 6, escaped. The stepdaughter, who suffered burns on 40 percent of her body, now lives with a grandmother.
Deputy District Attorney Marc Bennett said after the hearing that the girl is doing well in school but has yet to fully recover from her burns.
“Not only are there emotional scars, there are actual debilitating physical scars that she has to deal with every day,” he said. “It’s hard to wrap your brain around how atrocious this crime was.”e

I GAVE MY BOSS MY KIDNEY BUT SHE REPAID MY KINDNESS BY FIRING ME.
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/video#video=29104762
A New York woman who donated a kidney so that her boss could receive one, only to be fired afterwards, has told Sky News Online that she has been left "betrayed and heartbroken" by what happened to her.
Debbie Stevens, from Long Island, volunteered to become part of a kidney donation chain, so that her boss, Jacqueline Brucia, could move up the waiting list.
The two women had surgery on the same day in August 2011 after Ms Brucia took Ms Stevens up on the kind offer.
But Ms Stevens claims that when she returned to work after the operation, Ms Brucia became inexplicably "curt and dismissive", and angry with her for needing to take short breaks or time off.
She was moved to another branch of the car dealership she worked for, Atlantic Automotive Group, and then eventually fired last month.
Her bosses cited performance reasons for the termination, even though had been no complaints about her work before the kidney operation.
Ms Stevens says she has been so emotionally damaged by the incident, she has had to start seeing a therapist.
She said: "I feel ashamed and embarrassed about what has happened ... it makes no sense to me.
"It was such a hostile work environment."
Ms Stevens, a divorced mother-of-two, has now filed a lawsuit accusing her former employer of discriminating against her over disabilities brought about by complications from the surgery.
She says she continues to suffer from physical problems as a result of the operation, like numbness in the leg and digestive issues, and is worried about being faced with huge health bills.
Her legal team is seeking damages and compensation for loss of earnings.
Lawyer Jeffrey Brown said it was "hard to understand" why his client has been treated so badly.
He told Sky News Online: "She acted out of the goodness of her heart. She never expected anything in return, all she wanted was to be treated like a human being.
"It is shocking to think that someone who just received the gift of life could be so callous and inhumane.
"I think it's the ultimate, ultimate example of someone taking advantage of a kind spirited woman who really gave her kidney out of the goodness of her heart."
Atlantic Auto Group did not respond to requests for an interview, but the company has released a statement.
It says: "It is unfortunate that one employee has used her own generous act to make up a groundless claim.
"Atlantic Auto treated her (Ms Stevens) appropriately and acted honorable and fairly, at every turn."
Ms Brucia could not be reached for comment.

SCOTLAND BASED NIGERIANS MEET THE NIG HIGH COMMISSIONER,TARFIDA.
“The government is doing everything in her power to stem the security threat of Boko Haram.” These were the words of the Nigerian High Commissioner to UK in Edinburgh on Thursday 19 April 2012 at the Scotsman Hotel in a Town hall meeting with Nigerians. He said Boko Haram was about some people in the country orchestrating terrorism to show that the government of the day cannot protect her citizens ,and that it is not about religion or ethnicity. He promised that Boko Haram will be defeated and that every country has its own challenge .He pointed to the UK ,where as recent as a decade back the IRA was bombing locations round the country. “Give us time”, he pleaded.
Tafida warned that Nigerians must remain positive about their country and never pull her down.
In his response, Tafida said the Federal Government was committed to serving Nigerians in Scotland and pledged that a Consulate will be opened before the end of the year or early 2013. He said government share the aspiration of diasporans to participate in elections and that a bill to that effect is in the House.
The event which was attended by Nigerians from all walks of life saw Nigerians discussing the state of the Nigerian nation in a frank manner with the High Commissioner who did not disappoint with his great sense of humour and deep knowledge of current issues at home.

WHO NEEDS MESSI WHEN WE HAVE KALOU?-CHELSEA FANS
Roberto Di Matteo’s brief, yet remarkable reign as Chelsea’s caretaker manager continued last night as his side eliminated holders Barcelona 3-2 on aggregate to reach next month’s Champions League final in Munich.
A Ramires’ crucial away goal on the stroke of half-time had given them hope and a Fernando Torres injury time goal put the tie game beyond doubt. It was sweet revenge after they were eliminated by the Catalans on away goals in the 2009 semi-finals. As Chelsea’s players danced around on the pitch in celebration, the mood contrasted with the start of the game when 60,000 Catalan flags were waved by the crowd.
Barca had started, as expected, on the offensive. They were frustrated by Chelsea holding up play, though not cynically as the huge crowd’s loud whistles suggested – Gary Cahill overstretched and the defender was replaced by Jose Bosingwa after just 11 minutes.
At the other end, Gerard Pique was briefly knocked unconscious after colliding with Victor Valdes and Didier Drogba after 15 minutes. The defender, seen as crucial to Barca’s chances, returned but he was still dazed and was replaced by Daniel Alves 10 minutes later – not before Drogba had got the better of him to shoot into the side netting in a rare Chelsea attack.
Ahead of the finely poised semi-final tie, Guardiola had said that his players need to “find the balance between patience, rhythm and intensity.”
Barca laboured to find what their coach wanted and the tension was evident in both coaches on the touchline. Pep Guardiola and Roberto Di Matteo, the suited, slimline former professionals, both 41, stood on the edge of their areas urging on their players with their arms.
Without a breakthrough, frustration crept into Barca’s play with Sergio Busquets, of all players, angrily accusing Drogba of play-acting on 33 minutes. Busquets’ emotions changed a minute later as he celebrated after side-footing in a Cuenca cross. Barca were level on aggregate.
It got much worse for Chelsea, with captain John Terry sent off two minutes later for stupidly lifting his knee into Alexis Sanchez’s back on the edge of the penalty box. Never had the Chelsea song of ‘10 men went to mow’ been so prophetic and the visitors’ reduced ranks were soon 2-1 down on aggregate after 43 minutes when Messi put a ball through for Iniesta to side-foot past Petr Cech.
Barca were ascendant, the crowd delirious – and then a major, unexpected, twist just before the break. Ramires ran onto Lampard’s ball and coolly chipped Valdes from just inside the penalty area for a potentially crucial away goal. The initiative was back with the Londoners.
The goal lifted the 4,600 Chelsea fans who had spent the day relaxing in the Barcelona sun. They had been particularly emboldened before the game and taunted Barca fans with chants of “Jose Mourinho”. They had also sung: “We’re only here for the draw” and “Who needs Messi when we have Kalou?”
When play resumed, Barca swarmed over Chelsea and were awarded a penalty after 47 minutes when Drogba fouled Cesc Fabregas. Lionel Messi, who had not scored in all his previous games against Chelsea, stepped up and hit the cross bar. The tension intensified. Frank Lampard became indignant with Fabregas, before Alexis headed limply past Cech’s post as Barca sought another breakthrough. The Catalans had almost all the possession and passed easily around outside the Chelsea area, but the visitors refused to be drawn out of their defensive positions. They didn’t need to be and as Barca grew more frustrated and pushed forward, they left themselves exposed at the back and a ball forward to substitute Fernando Torres saw the Spaniard round Valdes to score.
The visiting fans celebrated wildly and have travel arrangements to make to Bavaria for a clash against Bayern Munich or Real Madrid – something few would have expected when Di Matteo took charge in February.

"For 78 minutes I was dead and even if I lived was expected to have suffered brain damage-Muamba
Fabrice Muamba has thanked God for keeping him alive following his cardiac arrest while playing for Bolton in March – saying it is a ‘miracle’ he is still alive
Muamba, speaking for the first time since his collapse while playing for the Trotters against Spurs in their FA Cup 5th round tie, came close to death after doctors confirmed his heart stopped beating for 78 minutes following his shock collapse.
Released from hospital last week after a month under doctors’ supervision, Muamba now has a three inch scar on his chest where doctors inserted a device to restart his heart should it stop again.

recuperating at an undisclosed address. Photograph: Handout/Reuters
Last week Bolton manager Owen Coyle revealed that Muamba could play in a Bolton shirt again in the future, although he insisted the former Arsenal trainee would not be rushed back.
The 24-year-old believes he has God to thank for helping survive such an ordeal and allowing him to walk out of hospital with the prospect of playing football again in the future,
In an interview with The Sun, Muamba said: "Someone up there was watching over me. What happened to me was really more than a miracle. On the morning of the game I prayed with my father and asked God to protect me - and he didn't let me down. I am walking proof of the power of prayer."
He added: "For 78 minutes I was dead and even if I lived was expected to have suffered brain damage. But I'm very much alive and sitting here talking now. Someone up there was watching over me."
Muamba collapsed after 40 minutes of the game against Spurs, but insisted that prior to that he had felt 'focused’ and ‘particularly fit’ as he tried to help Bolton qualify for the quarter finals of the FA Cup.
"It wasn't normal dizziness - it was a kind of surreal feeling like I was running along inside someone else's body," he said of the build-up to his collapse. "I had no pain whatsoever. No clutching at my chest or tightness like you see when people have heart attacks in movies. Just an odd feeling that's impossible to explain. Then I started to see double. It was almost like a dream."
He added: "I just felt myself falling through the air and then felt two big thumps as my head hit the ground in front of me then that was it. Blackness, nothing. I was dead."
With a long road to recovery ahead of him, Muamba paid tribute to Dr Andrew Deaner, a cardiologist and Tottenham fan who jumped from the crowd in order to assist the Spurs medical staff, playing a crucial role in helping keep Muamba alive.
"It was pure chance that Dr Deaner was in the crowd that day,” Muamba said. “I owe him everything. He is the reason I have been able to hold my baby son again and continue my life."

Man kills his year old son and burns wife with Pressing Iron
For 36 year-old Mrs Mercy Nnamdi, the woman whose one-year-old son was allegedly killed by her husband recently in Ago, Okota area of Lagos, over her husband’s allegation that she was sleeping with his father, life could never have been more cruel.
This is because never in her wildest imagination had she envisaged that a man she had known almost all her life could mete such inhuman treatment on her. As you read this piece, Mercy is going through excruciating pains in a private hospital in Okota where doctors are battling to save her life.
In fact, the once bubbling woman looks a shadow of herself, as medical report showed that she sustained a third degree burns from the hot iron her husband of two years used on her on Saturday, April 7 2012, which was exclusively reported by Vanguard.
Presently, the badly burnt woman maintains a particular position, by sleeping on her back. She wears an adult pampers when she eases herself, with a tissue paper by her side, with which she cleans the fluid coming out from the burns. Help, as gathered, was far from the Imo state-born woman, as none of her neighbours attempted to go and find out what was happening when she was desperately shouting for help. It was learnt that their neighbours failed to respond to her cries for help because it has become a daily occurrence.
Crime Guard gathered also that on several occasions, some of the neighbours invited policemen from Ago division who cautioned her husband after which he was made to sign an undertaking never to raise his hands on his wife.
Family sources hinted that signs of danger in the marriage reared its ugly face early after the two love birds fell in love 16 years ago, when Mary was barely 22 years old. But she was apparently blinded by love, hoping that her heartthrob would outgrow his anger someday, which was never to be.
Narrating what led to her being a patient in the hospital, Mary stated, “It all happened on a Saturday. I had prepared boiled yam, awaiting the arrival of my husband. After a long wait, I decided to eat mine and left his on the table. He came back few minutes to 11pm and went straight to bed. Then at about 1 a.m., power was restored and he went to put off the power generating set and switched over to electricity.
After that, he started ironing his customers’ clothes because he is a dry cleaner.
I was later woken up by the cry of our one-year-old baby who apparently needed breast milk. All the while, we were outside before power was restored. Before retiring inside, I took my bath and fetched water for him to have his.
The unforgettable night
I was fast asleep when I was woken up by a sharp pain on my back. I thought it was a night mare. But when I opened my eyes, lo and behold, my husband was planting the hot iron he was using on the clothes on me. Immediately I turned, he planted it on my chest. When I raised my hand to prevent it, he planted it on one of my hands . By then I did not know what to do. I started screaming and calling on my neighbours for help. I raised my leg to prevent him, again, he landed the hot iron on me.
As he planted the hot iron hard on my flesh, he would use a screw driver to peel off the flesh. At a point, I became too weak to shout. I begged him to stop but he would not. Rather, he would ask me to tell him how many times his father slept with me. Even in pains, I begged him to listen to himself and imagine what he was saying. My response seemed to anger him the more because he would plant it harder, leaving it on my skin and at the same time, asked me to tell him the truth.”
At this point, Crime Guard asked if she was guilty of the claim. She grimaced and replied, “How can that be? The father already has a wife.” Pausing for a while and staring at the ceiling , a position she has been maintaining for several hours, she continued, “ at that point, my baby woke up and started crying . I begged him to allow me breast feed the baby .
But before I could finish the statement, he placed the hot iron on my breasts, threatening to kill me if I shout. As he lifted the iron, I saw that the flesh from my breast had stuck to the iron surface. Again he pressed it harder on my stomach, leaving it there. I managed to turn, only for the iron to land on my lap.
He told me there was no way of escape for me that night, that members of his gang were outside to take my corpse to an unknown destination by the time he finished with me. At that point, I knew the end had come for me. I managed to shout out for help with all the strength in me but I could not.
At that point, he forcefully took Ebuka from the bed and went outside. I decided to go out because I did not know what he would do next when he came back. I cannot tell how I crawled out of the room. But I found myself in the kitchen naked, from where two men who saw me gave me wrapper to cover myself.
“As I was there, trying to fathom how I would escape from the compound, somebody shouted that my husband had killed my child. That was the last thing I heard. I guessed I passed out because I later opened my eyes and found myself in the hospital.”
Residents of Number 3, Lambe street, Ago confirmed to Crime Guard that they simply refused to go to Mary’s rescue that night because it was late and also that her shout for help had been one too many .
One of them said, “ Since they started living as husband and wife, there had never been a time we did not experience shout or crisis from their one-room apartment. It is worse any time the man came home drunk. We have even gone to report to the police when it became too much because we did not want a situation where he would kill her one day and we would be held responsible. Even at that, he did not stop.
“Several times, the woman had wanted to go back to her family but she wouldn’t. Even her father-in-law had advised her to leave when she travelled home last December because he was tired of the endless reports of his son battering his daughter in-law.”
Weeping, after pausing for a while, Mary recalled how he met her 37-year-old husband. “ We knew each other since 1996. The relationship blossomed until 2010, when he went for introduction in my village. I left my hair dressing skill and moved in with him with the hope of continuing later.”
But that was never to be as she revealed that rather than continuing learning hair dressing, she started selling pap, all in a bid to make ends meet and apparently as a demonstration of her love for Henry.
“He started showing his real colour later. He started by refusing to drop money for house keep and even when I begged him to rent a shop for me, he didn’t. Rather, he used the money to drink beer and smoke . When I advised him against his drinking and smoking habit, he would flare up and the next thing would be to hit me. Several times I have begged the police to help me beg him not to raise his hands on me but he wouldn’t”
Another predicament befalls Mary
Sadly, the anguished woman is faced with another predicament which is her inability to pay her medical bills. Already, Crime Guard gathered that her bill had amounted to N200,000 . Following this development, the hospital is threatening to stop treatment. Presently, the dressing of the burns which ought to be done on daily basis has been extended to once in two or three days, as a daily dressing cost s N10,000.
Sobbing uncontrollably and at the same time questioning her choice of partner, she revealed that her family members had not shown up since the incident occurred, as none of them, according to her, was aware of the incident.
“My mother must not hear of this because it will kill her. She is presently taking care of my sister who just put to bed in Owerri. I can not reach my relatives either because my phone is not with me and I do not have their phone numbers off hand.”
Crime Guard learnt that since the incident took place, her father in-law had been responsible for the hospital bills. But there is little Pa Nnamdi could do as the bill, as gathered, had gone beyond his capacity. Hospital sources disclosed that though their management had tried to attend to Mary’s case, there are indications that it might discharge her if the accrued bill is not cleared.
One of the doctors who identified himself simply as Eze explained that “she had a third degree burn and her case may deteriorate if she does not receive adequate care. She even fainted last Tuesday because she was not given food and her people lacked the fund to bring her back to normal state.”
He further disclosed that Mary was rushed to the hospital in a state of coma, adding that , “ The husband used pliers on her skin and decimated her. Then a hot iron was applied on her face, body chest, and her two breasts. Meanwhile, she has not been informed of the demise of her one-year-old son considering her present state.”
However, the alleged perpetrator of this dastardly act, Mr Henry Nnamdi who was arrested by neighbours, is currently at the State Criminal Investigation Department , Panti, Yaba. Efforts to speak with him proved abortive.
