WHY OVARIAN CANCER IS CALLED THE SILENT KILLER
Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month
© Eclipse Digital - Fotolia.com It’s been called the “silent killer” – a cancer that can spread before women are even aware they have it.
That’s because ovarian cancer symptoms can be vague and easily confused with a host of other, less serious conditions.
In fact, it is more common than cervical cancer: each year around 6,500 women in the UK are diagnosed with the disease and more than 4,000 lose their lives to it.
Despite these frightening statistics, however, experts insist the disease can be stopped in its tracks if women are made aware of the signs.
When ovarian cancer is found in the early stages, up to 90 per cent of women survive for more than five years. But two out of three cases are diagnosed in the later stages of the disease.
Now, for Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, women’s cancer charities are keen to get the message out so that more lives can be saved.
Gilda Witte of Ovarian Cancer Action says: “British women are far less likely than other women in Europe to get an early diagnosis of ovarian cancer and that means they are far more likely to die of it. This is terrible yet can be avoided in the majority of cases.”
As one woman with the disease points out: “They call it the silent killer but the symptoms shout out at you: you have to listen to your body and act.”
So what are the key signs to look out for? The most common ones include:
•Persistent pelvic or abdominal pain
•Increased abdominal size and persistent bloating
•Difficulty eating or feeling full quickly
Women may also experience urinary symptoms such as needing to wee more urgently or often than usual, a change in bowel habits (e.g. diarrhoea), extreme fatigue and weight loss for no obvious reason.
Often women can mistake these ailments with other problems such as a food intolerance, irritable bowel syndrome or even put it down to old age.
The majority of ovarian cancer cases tend to affect women aged over 50 who have already gone through the menopause – although some types can present in younger women.
In the UK, one in every 50 women will develop the disease at some point in their life.
Other risk factors include a strong family history of the disease, smoking and being overweight. There is a slightly increased risk in women who have not had children or breastfed and among women of Ashkenazi Jewish, Icelandic, Norwegian, Dutch, Pakistani and Polish descent.
There is a suggestion that use of combined HRT for more than five years can increase risk – although this risk returns to normal once HRT has stopped.
Charity Target Ovarian Cancer also points to some other potential risk factors – although evidence for these is mixed. These include use of talcum powder in the genital area, IVF treatments and eating excess amounts of foods containing acrylamides, such as over-baked or over-fried bacon, chips and so on.
If you do have a strong family link to the disease, your doctor can carry out a blood test and scan, although these are not fail safe modes of detection. Research is ongoing to find more specific causes of the cancer and better ways to rout it out.
TV’s Dr Rob Hicks says: "In the UK, treatment is very good but, unfortunately, the disease is already in the body and developing before the diagnosis is made and treated.
“One of the challenges is that the possible symptoms are relatively non-specific and any women might put them down to lifestyle or getting older.”
He adds: “The key thing about the symptoms – like stomach pains, bloating, needing to pass urine more frequently - is the fact that they are usually persistent. It's not a case of occasional bloating or feeling full after eating - these symptoms are those that are there day in, day out.”
Reassuringly, in most cases these symptoms will not point to ovarian cancer. But the truth is that, in those cases when it is, early detection means a better chance of beating it.

HAVING FEARS OVER MY WIFE BECAUSE SHE IS SEXY IS LIKE COMMITTING SUICIDE-SAYS DORIS SIMEON'S HUSBAND,DANIEL
This is the sad and unfortunate news about the respected marriage between popular Yoruba movie actress, Doris Simeon and movie director, Daniel Ademinokan. Tales about their marriage in the last two weeks have become the subject of discussion among several of their colleagues and the crux of gist about them is that the couple has practically separated as both of them now leave apart. According to findings, Daniel and Doris have been having issues with their marriage and for several months have been patching up and pretending as if all is well.
Daniel, according to sources close to him has obviously had enough of putting up and patching up with Doris according to findings, he had always taken care of their baby, David and Doris because her busy schedule hardly affords her time to take care of the 2-year old boy.
Those close to Daniel also claim Doris has not really been in the good books of her in-laws. They claim she refused to visit Daniel’s dad when he was sick and hospitalized last year despite suggestions by her estranged husband that she finds time to visit the man as he was away in another state to direct a movie. Doris,we learnt did not visit the man in the hospital till the man died. They claim she deliberately claimed to be busy so as not to visit her father in-law.
There are also strong indications that Daniel claims he was not aware of his wife’s efforts to set up a shop in Lagos where she sells household wares. He feels the shop will distract Doris more from paying attention to the home.
Aside the reasons those close to Daniel claim have been responsible for the trouble in the marriage, there are strong rumours that Daniel and daring and popular movie actress, Tonto Dikeh are close and are enjoying a sizzling romance which they succeeded in keeping away from several colleagues and the prying media. A source close to Doris claimed Tonto was instrumental to Daniel’s initial constant trips to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. It is believed that both Tonto and Daniel met while he was directing the movie of another actress, Rukky Sanda in Abuja. Once the two began seeing themselves news filtered to Doris in Lagos and she confronted her handsome husband with the allegations. This resulted into an heated argument. Though it is not certain but it seems that was about the last time Daniel and Doris stayed together under the same roof. Our source informed that the Abuja house that Daniel moved to served as a love nest for the movie director and actress for several months. Interestingly, while the news of the troubled marriage filtered into town,Tonto denied having any affair with Daniel and dissociated herself from the ugly story of the break-up of the marriage of the young couple ,who a lot of people did not imagine will go their separate ways. Tonto has been telling whoever cares to listen that she has been busy in Owerri, Asaba and Enugu since January and declared that at no point has she been in and out of Abuja this year. She further said that Daniel is not a friend of hers in any level, not meaning any disrespect, as they have only met once on the set of her very good friend, Rukky Sanda, where she went to morally support the efforts of Rukky.
Daniel and Doris met at a movie location during the production of a Yoruba movie, ‘Omo Jayejaye’ in 2005 which Daniel produced. In 2008 they both got nominated at the African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) for Best Indigenous Actress while Daniel’s movie Onitemi also got nominated as Best Indegenous Movie. Though the movie did not win the award. While they were fresh into the wedding ,Daniel concerning himself and his wife said, “I am assuring them that we are going to do all we can to develop the state of Nollywood. In the next 30 years, we will be used as a reference point when that begins to happen. I know that God is taking us there. It is not just making money, living comfortably, driving big cars without making impact. It is for us to leave our footprints in the sands of time. We are set to define a standard in the Nigerian movie industry and try to channel the course of the movie industry to business in Nigeria”.
When asked about how they cope with working in the same industry and keeping their home. Daniel explained, “It depends on what you mean. Our profession is such that keeps both of us outside. When I am busy, she is also busy. It is only on rare occasions you can easily get through to me. When she is not at home, I sit down, watch television and sleep. She goes in the morning, comes back at night. The truth is I’m more engaged than her. But when she is not at home, nothing else comes to mind than missing her a lot”.
Daniel who hails from Delta State once made a remark about their marriage and her beauty. “I met my wife on the job and she has been on the job long before I met her. And I have been doing the job a longtime ago. She is a professional to the core and I see no reason why I should be afraid because my wife is out there doing her job. I love and trust my wife so much and that is our bond. If you love a woman, you have to lay off your fears. At least, I won’t kill myself because she is sexy. She has to do her job as much as I do mine. I’ve done movies where I kissed a woman. She has also done movies where she kissed a man and I love her when she is doing her job. And it doesn’t go beyond that. I have no fear, at least. My mind never wanders anywhere else. Having fears over her being sexy is like committing suicide. I love my wife and she loves me”, Daniel said about his estranged wife who hails from Edo State.
Ironically Daniel once told whoever care to listen that he got married to a wonderful, God sent woman. His words: “She is a sweet mother. She is homely and she cooks very well. Recently, she learnt a type of soup from my mother. It is called Owo and she is perfect at it. She is loving, caring, accommodating and carries her in-laws along. She loves spending time with my family members and they love her so much. She knows exactly what to say to her husband when something is wrong”.
Even when there is an atomic bomb in your bedroom or inside your car, she knows what to tell you and that makes you feel there is no problem in the world again. And that gives you the option of either defusing the bomb or embracing the bomb blast with all smile.
Daniel Adenimokan is a budding Nollywood director who is loved by actresses. He is married to Yoruba actress Doris Simeon. Daniel has directed several movies including the Biopic of late Rapper Dagrin,Ghetto dreamz, Modupe Temi, Black Friday ,and Onitemi.
To several of those who respect them it is disturbing to know the marriage is in trouble.
Efforts to reach Daniel and Doris severally on their individual phones yielded no result as both refused to pick their calls and reply text messages sent to them to react to their troubled marriage.

More Than Half Of Young Black Men Jobless
There are fears young black men are becoming increasingly marginalised from society after statistics revealed that more than half of them are now unemployed.
The unemployment rate for black men under 24 has risen from 28.8% in 2008 to 55.9%, according to the Office of National Statistics.
In total, the number of unemployed young black men and women has almost doubled from 28% in 2008 to 47.4% since the recession began in 2008,
The number of unemployed young white people has risen at a far slower rate, from just 15% in 2008 to 20.8% in 2011.
The figures, which do not include students, are for the working population of Britain aged 16-24.
They suggest that both black men and black women are being hit disproportionately hard by the recession, with latest jobless figures for young black women showing the rate now at 39.1%.
Robert Rose, 19, from Deptford, told Sky News that he applies for jobs every day online but that the only offers he receives are for unpaid work experience.
His last position was in a cafe where he was asked to mop the floor and wash dishes but he left because he did not earn any money and did not feel he was learning useful skills.
Mr Rose does not believe he is being discriminated against because of his colour but thinks potential employers do not like how he looks and dresses.
"I am doing everything I can to the best of my ability," he said, although he admits he could try even harder.
"There is more I can do. I go on the internet for jobs and hand out CVs but there are other ways you apply for jobs.
"You can look in newspapers. You can ask people word to mouth. I am trying but I'm not going the full length to look for jobs."
His mother Lauren added: "Some young people are genuinely looking for jobs. Some of them, you can see they're frustrated. But some of them, I don't think they are pushing hard enough."
Mr Rose's brother-in-law Nathan John, who runs a mentoring company called Youth Enlightenment, does not believe racial discrimination operates in the jobs market but says young black people have more hurdles to overcome.
"Some of them lack the skills and confidence and belief in themselves to get a job which is going to pay well and there's a stigma to being a young black man that society places on you," he said.
"If you saw someone walking towards you who is young and black, you're not going to think 'there's a future PM, future doctor or future lawyer'. You're thinking 'here's a future gangster. Is he going to stick me up?' That's an issue."
Wilfred Emmanuel-Jones grew up in a poor Jamaican family in Birmingham, but founded the Black Farmer food business, and unsucessfully stood as a Conservative candidate in the last election.
He told Sky News "The consequences of having a group of people who fell marginalised, who don't feel they have any stake in society, is the consequences that we could have the riots that we had last summer. It's something that I'd be pretty concerned about, and our politicians should be worried about."
The ONS calculates unemployment as a percentage of the economically-active population.
The Department for Work and Pensions says that when the figure is changed to include students and those unavailable for work, the proportion of young black unemployed falls to 22%.
"We have introduced a number of measures designed to give all young people the right skills and experience to match them to vacancies," a spokesman said.
"This includes the Work Programme, which assesses people as individuals to discover what barriers are preventing them from getting a job and will then work with them overcome these problems.
"We are also spending £1bn over the next three years to help young jobseekers by creating around half a million opportunities through work experience and apprenticeships."

I knew a woman who lived in South Africa, she said that the blacks are like children, totally unreliable. Lots of money was spent building schools in an attempt to educate them and all they did was burn them down. Doesn't matter what country they are in, most of them are unemployable, end of story.

Dick Van Dyke, 86, married his 40-year-old make-up artist Arlene Silver on Leap Day.
The actor told RumorFix the decision was "spur of the moment" and that 29 February felt like the best day to tie the knot.

Dick and Arlene met at the SAG Awards six years ago, when the octogenarian was "bowled over by her beauty" as she passed him in the green room.

Witchcraft Torture Couple Jailed For Life
A couple convicted of torturing and drowning a teenage boy they accused of being a witch have been jailed for life.
Kristy's sister Magalie, 29, was given a minimum term of 25 years and her partner Eric Bikubi, 28, a minimum term of 30 years.
They were sentenced at the Old Bailey in London following their convictions last week for the murder.
Judge David Paget told the couple that they were guilty of "prolonged torture involving metal and physical suffering being inflicted before death."
Kristy, 15, died in a bath at a tower block flat in Newham, east London, on Christmas Day 2010 after days of brutal abuse.
He had travelled to London from Paris with his two brothers and two sisters to spend the holiday with Magalie.
But during the stay, Magalie and football coach Bikubi became convinced Kristy was a witch and began a four day "deliverance" ceremony.
Kristy was attacked with hammers, metal bars, pliers, ceramic tiles, a chisel and wooden poles in a bid to exorcise evil spirits.
His brothers and sisters were made to join in the torture and if they refused Bikubi forced light bulbs in their mouths and threatened them with knives.
None of the children were allowed to sleep or eat and were forced to join in chanting and prayers.
At one point, Bikubi told the youngsters to jump out of the window to see if they could fly, the court heard.
On Christmas Day, Bikubi put the children in the bath for ritual cleansing but Kristy was so weak after three days of abuse that he slipped under the water.
His sisters, aged 20 and 11, were also beaten but escaped further attacks after "confessing" to being witches.
Both Bikubi and the Bamu family hail originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo, where accusing children of witchcraft and then exorcising them is commonplace.
The practice is known as "kindoki" and during the trial, the jury were told that it was the "driving force" behind the murder.
The judge accepted that Bikubi's mental damage may have made him more inclined to believe Kristy was a witch and a threat to a young child of the family.
But he added: "The belief in witchcraft, however genuine, cannot excuse an assault to another person, let alone the killing of another human being."
He told Magalie he did not accept her denial of belief in witchcraft and claim that she was forced to attack Kristy by Bikubi.
"It is only explicable if you shared Eric Bikubi's belief. It provides some explanation for what happened, but it does not excuse it," the judge said.
No separate sentence was passed for attacks on Kristy's sisters, although the judge said: "The ordeal they were subjected to almost passes belief."
Kristy's father Pierre said in a statement: "Kristy died in unimaginable circumstances at the hands of people he loved and trusted - people we all loved and trusted.
"I feel betrayed. To know that Kristy's own sister, Magalie, did nothing to save him makes the pain that much worse."
Scotland Yard has investigated 83 cases involving abuse resulting from ritualistic or faith-based beliefs and brought 17 prosecutions over the last 10 years.
Detective Superintendent Terry Sharpe said: "This is a hidden and under-reported crime and therefore difficult to deal with in terms of protecting potential victims from harm."
Save the Children's head of child protection, Bill Bell, said: "This case must serve as a wake-up call to governments and local authorities to do more to prevent this kind of terrible abuse from happening to children in future.

Waste of money keeping this pair inside - A little of the treatment they dished out to that young man should do the trick, take it nice and slow and give them ample time to reflect upon the atrocities they committed.

They must have originated from Democratic Republic of Congo. That is where people have so much believe in witchcraft and even killed children suspected to be witches. In our country they will get the death penalty!!

CANCER MADE ME MORE BEAUTIFUL-BELOVED APOSTLE BIMPE
There are people you meet in life,you just know you need to adjust so many areas of your life for the better,Beloved Apostle Bimpe has such an impact on many including this Writer by being nothing short of an Enigma.Especially in the face of Cancer.
When a chariot of Horses accompanied by a white sprawling Limousine competes with Traffic in East London, you either assume it’s a wedding or Funeral Procession most times but it was neither on the 12th of November,2011. More like a Funeral- defying -Birthday procession. The event itself is as paradoxical as the Celebrant makes it out to be for as at her 45th birthday, vivacious and humanitarian extraordinaire, Beloved Apostle Bimpe ,( a sibling of Ex-Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose)as the medical records say has four months to live. No thanks to stage -4 breast Cancer.
The stage was set, the invites have been sent, the venue, a Church hall close to Dalston Market, Guests who most had never met Bimpe before but are her ardent fans on Facebook waited patiently for her arrival. The Band entertained before she arrived, and true to form, Bimpe came dressed like a Bride with a “Groom” who was covered in veil, she tagged him the Holy Spirit. Dancing and practically thrilling and not looking anything like a Cancer Sufferer, she declared, “I was supposed to come here in a Coffin but look at me, this Cancer seems to have made me more beautiful, I was a size 18 now a shapely size 12”.I said to my friends, whatever you wish to say in the a case of Service of Songs, come and say it to me now because a dead person does not hear tributes.”
If anyone tried to shed one or two tears, the idea quickly turned to laughter because, Beloved Apostle Bimpe whose Ministry ensured mentally challenged people in Nigeria were taken off the streets, housed, fed and fully rehabilitated was bubbling with life. Bimpe, who is quite vocal, never shy from speaking out against the norm in most churches of over-emphasising prosperity. She says people refuse the truth hence are taken advantage of by most crafty Pastors.Speaking with us, Bimpe reveals how she has been living despite the threat of Cancer. Excerpts
“I don’t have the power over Cancer but it was supposed to have kept me in Hospice but here I am now.
My children are already being prepared for after death programmes by the British Government.
I saw uncontrollable tears rolling down my cheeks the first time I was diagnosed on June 28th, 2011.I could not imagine me without my breast. In fact, the news of losing my breast was even more painful to me than the news of dying. I asked my kids later if they will prefer me dead than a breast less mother. I did not know that more bad news was coming as I was later told that it had gone past the curable state. I was given six months but with Chemotherapy, it might be up to twelve months. My mother or siblings never had Cancer. But I read that every human being has Cancer cells in the body. Our lifestyle and so many other things could result to various afflictions to our body. With my awareness now, I pray my daughter will never have Cancer.
I am a spiritual being,I was very depressed at the news of having a few months to live. I depreciated,I could not eat and was dying daily. My kids will leave me at home with a cup of tea and come back from School to meet me still holding that cup. If one deals with it as hopelessness, then you are gone. I was dead, but the last time I was told that the Ultra scan to check the tumour showed that there were no evidence of it in my Lungs and Liver. I choose to believe the good news. Even the tumour I feel is softening though they said it is only Chemo or radiotherapy that can remove it. I believe that the faithfulness of God kept me alive. I am not looking for Prayer Warriors,this is my time of helplessness so if God wants me to live I will. I have not taken any therapy or treatment, it is my right to live'.
That was last year,in fact Beloved Apostle Bimpe who just returned from Nigeria seems to be waxing strong and her numerous fans cannot wait to mark many more Birthdays with her.
THE JOURNEY TOOK ON AN HEAVENLY PHASE,DEAREST BELOVED APOSTLE BIMPE WENT TO JOIN HER GOD,WHO IS THE BEGINNING AND THE END ON THE 13TH OF FEBRUARY,2013.
I ALWAYS TOLD HER THAT I HAVE NEVER MET ANYONE LIKE HER.IT IS TRUE.
MAY HER SOUL REST IN PEACE,AND HER EXCEPTIONALLY LOVELY KIDS AND FAMILY BE CONSOLED BY DIVINE ANGELS.

How do I sum up 23 years in one page? I don't know. How do I describe you? I cannot. Not in any depth. Not for anybody else - you were my husband, my brother, my friend, my child. I was your queen, and it was an honour to have served you.
You were the lion of my history books, the leader of my nation when we faced extinction, the larger-than-life history come to my life - living, breathing legend. But unlike the history books, you defied all preconceptions. You made me cry from laughter with your jokes, many irreverent. You awed me with your wisdom. You melted my heart with your kindness. Your impeccable manners made Prince Charming a living reality. Your fearlessness made you the man I dreamt of all my life and your total lack of seeking public approval before speaking your mind separated you from mere mortals.
Every year that I spent with you was an adventure - no two days were the same. With you, I was finally able to soar on wings wider than the ocean. With you I was blessed with the best children God in heaven had to give. With you, I learnt to face the world without fear and learnt daily the things that matter most. Your disdain for money was novel - sometimes funny, other times quite alarming.
It mattered not a whit to you. Your total dedication to your people - Ndi-Igbo - was so absolute that really, very little else mattered. You never craved anybody's praise as long as you believed that you were doing right and even in the face of utmost danger, you never relented from speaking truth to power - to you, what after all, was power? It was not that conferred by the gun, nor that stolen from the ballot box. No. You understood that power transcended all that. Power is the freedom to be true to yourself and to God, no matter the cost.
It is freedom from fear. It is freedom from bondage. It is freedom to seek the wellbeing of your people just because you love them. It is the ability to move a whole nation without a penny as inducement nor a gun to force them. When an entire nation can rise up for one person for no other reason than that they love him and know he is their leader - sans gun, money, official title or any strange paraphernalia - that is power.
To try to contain you in words is futile. You span the breadth of human experience - full of laughter, joy, kindness and sometimes, almost childlike in your ability to find something good in almost everyone and every situation. You could flare up at any injustice and in the next instant, sing military songs to the children. You could analyze a situation with incredible swiftness and accuracy. In any generation, there can only be one like you. You were that one star. You were a child of destiny, born for no other time than the one you found yourself in.
Destined to lead your people at the time total extinction was staring us in the face. There was no one else. You gained nothing from it. You used all the resources you had just to wage a war of survival. You fought to keep us alive when we were being slaughtered like rams for no reason. Today, we find ourselves in the same situation but you are not here. You fought that we might live. The truth is finally coming out and even those who fought you now acknowledge that you had no choice. For your faithfulness, God kept you and brought you home to your people.
You loved Nigeria. You spent so much of your waking moments devising ways through which Nigeria could progress to Tai-Two!!! You were the eternal optimist, always hoping that one day, God will touch His people and give us one Vision and the diligence to work towards the dream. It never came to pass in your lifetime. Instead, the disaster you predicted if we continued on the same path has come home to roost. You always saw so clearly. Your words are indelibly preserved for this generation to read and learn and perhaps heed and turn. You always said the dry bones will rise again. But you always hoped we would not become the dry bones by our actions. Above all, you feared for your own people, crying out against the relentless oppression that has not three ceased since the end of the war and saddened by the acceptance of this position by your own people. In death, you have awakened the spirit that we thought had died. Your people are finally waking up.
At home, you were the father any child would dream of having. At no point did our children have to wonder where you were. You were ever at their disposal, playing with them, teaching them of a bygone era, teaching them of the world they live in and giving them the total security of knowing you were always present.
In mercy, God gave me a year to prepare for the inevitable. I could never have survived an instant departure. In mercy, God ensured that your final week on earth was spent only with me and that on your last day, you were back to your old self. I cannot but thank God for the joy of that final day - the jokes, the laughter, the songs. It was a lifetime packed into a few hours, filled with hope that many tomorrows would follow and that we would be home for Christmas. You deceived me. You were so emphatic that we would be going home. I did not know you meant a different home.
The swiftness of your departure remains shocking to me. You left on the day I least expected. But I cannot fight God. He owns your life and mine. I know that God called you home because every other time it seemed you were at death's door, you fought like the lion that God made you and always prevailed. In my eyes, even death was no match for you. But who can say 'no' to the Almighty God? You walked away with Him, going away with such peace that I can only bow to God's sovereignty. Your people have remembered. The warrior of our land has gone. The flags are lowered in your honour. Our hearts are laden with grief.
But I will trust that the living God who gave you to me will look after me and our children. Through my sadness, the memories will always shine bright and beautiful.

WHAT THE QUEEN, KATE MIDDLETON AND ABIKE DABIRI HAVE IN COMMON
De Montfort University is a public research and teaching university situated in the medieval Old Town of Leicester, England, adjacent to the River Soar and the Leicester Castle Gardens. 40% of the university's research was deemed 'world leading' or 'internationally excellent' in the United Kingdom Research Assessment Exercise, highlighting particular strength in English literature, where it equalled the University of Cambridge. The university has the second highest number of National Teaching Fellows of all UK universities. The school was established in 1870 as Leicester School of Arts but gained University status in 1992.The School seems to be enjoying a bit of spotlight lately as Honourable Abike of the Nigerian House Of Representatives visited recently and the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton will be joining the Queen to visit De Montfort come the 8th of March, 2012.
Nigerian students of De Montfort University, Leicester and a few others from neighbouring cities played host to Honourable Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairman, House Committee on diaspora affairs penultimate Friday in a Lecture organised by the Nigerian Students Society of the school. Abike, who just a day before was one of the Speakers at the BEN TV security conference in London spoke on the theme, Nigeria, a country of paradox: antecedent, apposition and way forward. The event which had the school's Pro Vice Chancellor (Teaching and Learning), notable personalities such as Professor Andy Downton in attendance and the representative of Student Services/International Student Support Office, Andy Gale was well attended. The Nigerian High Commissioner, Dr Dalhatu Tarfida who was unavoidably absent due to another function was represented by Mr Simon Ogah, Minister and Head Information in the Nigerian High Commission, UK.
As for the Royals, as earlier stated, The Duchess of Cambridge will join the Queen on the start of her Diamond jubilee tour in Leicester, accompanied by the duke of Edinburgh. The royals will watch a play presented by students of the school among other duties.It is the first stop of a country –wide tour that will finish on July 25.

Damilare Akintade:I believe the visit of Hon.Abike Dabiri is an honour to DMU Nigerian Students and Students in the UK. Also, the Queen’s visit will be a memorable event here, which will help the University in many ways.
Grace Ogunejimite:I think the visit of Abike Dabiri is good for Students which gives them opportunity to interact with her but I hope she goes further by Facebook or Twitter accounts where the relationship can continue. The Queen’s visit will give us a life term opportunity to see her.
Rasheedat: First, I am glad that she honoured the invite and she was attentive to people’s questions, in my overall opinion,she responded well which contributed to the success of the event. I am excited that the Queen will be here as well as Princess Kate.
Wahabu: Honourable Abike’s visit has improved the image of DMNUNSS In the school as one of the most vibrant groups in the UK. It is a good thing for the community and the University to have the Queen here as we have one of the most diverse ethnic societies in the UK.

FOUNDATION LAUNCHED IN HONOUR OF LATE MAYOR SITTU
It is almost a year that the illustrious son of Nigeria, Mayor of London Borough of Southwark, Councillor Tayo Sittu departed this world leaving a yawning gap in the political landscape of the Nigeria UK community. It is a bit of cheering news though that his son, Councillor Michael is representing his race well as a Councillor for Livesey ward in Walworth, hugely encouraged by his mum and siblings. It was however not too surprising and a welcome development when distinguished crowd of Nigerians and friends of Nigeria attended the launch of a foundation in his honour a few weeks back.
The event tagged the Tayo Sittu Foundation (TSF) was attended by community leaders including the Mayors of Southwark and Lambeth, other Council leaders and religious leaders across the borough. It aims to champion young people in the community. The highlight of the event includes the unveiling of the logo, brief remarks and revealing the future projects of the foundation. Late Mayor Sittu who succumbed to Cancer after a brave but dignified battle was eulogised by his Successor Councillor Lorraine Lauder thus,'I am happy to be a Patron of the Sittu Foundation. Tayo was a caring person who wanted more support for young people. It is good to see TSF carrying on his work'.
Southwark's Councillor Tayo Sittu passed away on the 9th of May, 2011 after being ill for a number of weeks. A Peckham councillor since 2002, he came to South London from Nigeria in 1985 and studied accountancy before running his own business. He was made Mayor in May 2010. He survived by his wife Abike, five children and grandchildren. He was given a full British state funeral with the service held at Southwark Cathedral on the 23rd of MAY, 2011.
