[edit] Club career

Yekini was born in Kaduna. After starting his professional career in the Nigerian league, he moved to Côte d'Ivoire to play for Africa Sports National. From there he went to Portugal and Vitória de Setúbal, where he experienced his most memorable years, eventually becoming the Portuguese first division's top scorer, in 1993–94, as his performances (32 matches, 34 goals) earned him the title of African Footballer of the Year in 1993, the first ever from the nation.
In the 1994 summer, Yekini was bought by Olympiacos FC, but did not get along with teammates and left. His career never really got back on track, not even upon a return to Setúbal, which happened after another unassuming spell, in La Liga with Sporting de Gijón. He successively played with FC Zürich, Club Athlétique Bizertin and Al-Shabab Riyadh, before rejoining Africa Sports. In 2003, at 39, he returned to the Nigerian championship with Julius Berger FC.
In 2005, 41-year old Yekini made a short comeback, moving alongside former national teammate Mobi Oparaku to Gateway FC.

[edit] International career

Scoring 37 goals for Nigeria's national side in 58 appearances,[1] Yekini is the national record goalscorer. He was part of the team that participated in the 1994 FIFA World Cup (where he scored Nigeria's first-ever goal in a World Cup, in a 3–0 win against Bulgaria) and the 1998 World Cup.
Additionally, Yekini also helped the Super Eagles win the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations, where he also topped the goal charts, and participated at Olympic level, in Seoul 1988.

BARACK OBAMA'S EX-GIRLFRIENDS SPEAK

What's it like to date the future president of the US? Readers will get a glimpse soon enough as President Obama's ex-girlfriend Genevieve Cook has recently talked about dating President Obama (and their chemistry and his possible emotional issues) when he was in college. Deets inside.....

In the latest issue of VANITY FAIR, the magazine runs an excerpt from the book Barack Obama: The Story, by David Maraniss, to be published this month by Simon & Schuster.
What's interesting about this book is that it tracks down ex-girlfriends of the president and has them speak openly about their relationship. Juicy right?
Two such ladies were Alex McNear and Genevieve Cook who dated President Obama in the early 80s while he was still a student at Columbia. In their pieces, they reveal him to be smart and WISE beyond his years, but also a workaholic with possible emotional issues. If anything, these recounts make the President appear even more personable and relatable.
Though President Obama has spoken in the past about his own emotional issues and often working too hard and not spending enough time with First Lady Michelle or the kids, through Alex and Genevieve's stories you get a glimpse at where some of these issue began. First Lady Michelle has spoken about this too as something they went through several years ago and have worked through. Read the excepts here:
Girlfriend #1 - Alex McNear
....The loneliness of Obama’s New York existence emerged in his letters to Alex McNear, a young woman from Occidental who had enchanted Obama when she was co-editing the literary magazine Feast, and with whom he reconnected when she spent the summer of 1982 in New York. Alex had always been fond of Barry, as she called him, and “thought he was interesting in a very particular way. He really worked his way through an idea or question, turned it over, looked at it from all sides, and then he came to a precise and elegant conclusion.” When Alex came to New York, she gave Obama a call. They met at an Italian restaurant on Lexington Avenue, and, as she remembered the night, “we sat and talked and ate and drank wine. Or at least I drank wine. I think he drank something stronger. It was one of those dark, old Italian restaurants that don’t exist in New York anymore. It was the kind of place where they leave you alone. I remember thinking how happy I felt just talking to him, that I could talk to him for hours. We walked slowly back to my apartment, on 90th, and said good-bye. After that we started spending much more time together.”
....The long-distance relationship with Alex McNear after that summer—they would drift apart as time wore on—was conducted mostly through a series of passionate letters sent between his apartment (he was then living at 339 East 94th, in Manhattan) and hers, at 2210 Ridgeview Avenue, in Eagle Rock, California. By her account, the passion was as much about ideas and words as about their romance—what she later called “that dance of closeness through language.” Alex was interested in postmodern literary criticism, and her arguments brimmed with the deconstructionist ideas of Jacques Derrida, the French philosopher. In one letter she told Obama that she was writing a paper in her modern-poetry class at Occidental about T. S. Eliot’s “The Waste Land.” His reply wove its way through literature, politics, and personal philosophy..

Girlfriend #2 - Genevieve Cook
The party in the sixth-floor apartment was well under way when Genevieve arrived: lights dim, Ella Fitzgerald playing on the stereo, chattering people, arty types, recent college grads, some in the publishing world, none of whom she knew except the host. She went into the kitchen, to the right of the front entrance corridor, looking for a glass, then decided it would be less fussy to drink straight from the bottle. That was her style. She fancied smoking non-filter Camels and Lucky Strikes. She liked drinking Baileys and Punt e Mes, an Italian vermouth. Standing in the kitchen was a guy named Barack, wearing blue jeans, T-shirt, dark leather jacket. They spoke briefly, then moved on. Hours later, after midnight, she was about to leave when Barack Obama approached and asked her to wait. They plopped down on an orange beanbag chair at the end of the hall, and this time the conversation clicked.
He noticed her accent. Australian, she said. He knew many Aussies, friends of his mother’s, because he had lived in Indonesia when he was a boy. So had she, before her parents divorced, and again briefly in high school. As it turned out, their stays in Jakarta had overlapped for a few years, starting in 1967. They talked nonstop, moving from one subject to another, sharing an intense and immediate affinity, enthralled by the randomness of their meeting and how much they had in common. They had lived many places but never felt at home.
At night’s end, as Genevieve recalled that first encounter when I spoke with her decades later, they exchanged phone numbers on scraps of paper. “I’m pretty sure we had dinner maybe the Wednesday after. I think maybe he cooked me dinner. Then we went and talked in his bedroom. And then I spent the night. It all felt very inevitable.”
Her diary entries about him:
Sunday, January 22, 1984
What a startling person Barack is—so strange to voice intimations of my own perceptions—have them heard, responded to so on the sleeve. A sadness, in a way, that we are both so questioning that original bliss is dissipated—but feels really good not to be faltering behind some façade—to not feel that doubt must be silenced and transmuted into distance.
Thursday, January 26
How is he so old already, at the age of 22? I have to recognize (despite play of wry and mocking smile on lips) that I find his thereness very threatening…. Distance, distance, distance, and wariness.
Sunday, February 19
Despite Barack’s having talked of drawing a circle around the tender in him—protecting the ability to feel innocence and springborn—I think he also fights against showing it to others, to me. I really like him more and more—he may worry about posturing and void inside but he is a brimming and integrated character.
Today, for the first time, Barack sat on the edge of the bed—dressed—blue jeans and luscious ladies on his chest [a comfy T-shirt depicting buxom women], the end of the front section of the Sunday Times in his hand, looking out the window, and the quality of light reflected from his eyes, windows of the soul, heart, and mind, was so clear, so unmasked, his eyes narrower than he usually holds them looking out the window, usually too aware of me.
Saturday, February 25
The sexual warmth is definitely there—but the rest of it has sharp edges and I’m finding it all unsettling and finding myself wanting to withdraw from it all. I have to admit that I am feeling anger at him for some reason, multi-stranded reasons. His warmth can be deceptive. Tho he speaks sweet words and can be open and trusting, there is also that coolness—and I begin to have an inkling of some things about him that could get to me.
Genevieve was out of her mother’s Upper East Side apartment by then. Earlier that spring she had moved and was sharing the top floor of a brownstone at 640 Second Street in Park Slope. The routine with Barack was now back and forth, mostly his place, sometimes hers. When she told him that she loved him, his response was not “I love you, too” but “thank you”—as though he appreciated that someone loved him. The relationship still existed in its own little private world. They spent time cooking. Barack loved to make a ginger beef dish that he had picked up from his friend Sohale Siddiqi. He was also big on tuna-fish sandwiches made the way his grandfather had taught him, with finely chopped dill pickles. For a present, Genevieve bought him an early edition of The Joy of Cooking. They read books together and talked about what they had read. For a time they concentrated on black literature, the writers Maya Angelou, Toni Morrison, Toni Cade Bambara, and Ntozake Shange.
Early in Barack’s relationship with Genevieve, he had told her about “his adolescent image of the perfect ideal woman” and how he had searched for her “at the expense of hooking up with available girls.” Who was this ideal woman? Genevieve conjured her in her mind, and it was someone other than herself. She wrote, “I can’t help thinking that what he would really want, be powerfully drawn to, was a woman, very strong, very upright, a fighter, a laugher, well-*experienced—a black woman I keep seeing her as.”
Thursday, May 23, 1985
Barack leaving my life—at least as far as being lovers goes. In the same way that the relationship was founded on calculated boundaries and carefully, rationally considered developments, it seems to be ending along coolly considered lines. I read back over the past year in my journals, and see and feel several themes in it all … how from the beginning what I have been most concerned with has been my sense of Barack’s withholding the kind of emotional involvement I was seeking. I guess I hoped time would change things and he’d let go and “fall in love” with me. Now, at this point, I’m left wondering if Barack’s reserve, etc. is not just the time in his life, but, after all, emotional scarring that will make it difficult for him to get involved even after he’s sorted his life through with age and experience.
Hard to say, as obviously I was not the person that brought infatuation. (That lithe, bubbly, strong black lady is waiting somewhere!)

FATHER REGULARLY RAPED DAUGHTER FOR TEN YEARS,FORCING HER TO ACT AS 'WIFE'.

A daughter forced to act as her father's 'wife' has waived her right to anonymity to help other abuse victims. Emma Frost, 22, was left devastated after suffering a decade of sexual abuse at the hands of her father.
Now, after seeing him jailed for life, she is taking the brave step of sharing her story in the hopes she can help others who have suffered a similar plight.
Emma, from Clacton, Essex, says: 'I stayed silent for years because I thought nobody would believe me.
'Your parent is the person you are supposed to turn to for help, but he was the one abusing me. I felt trapped and it tore me apart.'
Tragic: Emma Frost was subjected to a decade of sexual abuse at the hands of her father, who forced her to live with him as a 'wife', raping her regularly and making her serve him
Now a proud parent herself, Emma says she was relieved her father was jailed, but she will 'have the memories forever'. 'I suffered in silence for too long and I want to help other young women,' she says

Christopher Frost, 45, began abusing his daughter when she was nine years old.
'I remember the first time I was watching TV in the lounge when he came in and sat next to me for a cuddle. But he had a towel in his hand and draped it across our laps.
Afterwards her dad told her that was a 'special cuddle' - something that would go on to happen more and more frequently over the next few years.
'I knew it was wrong and I hated it, but I didn't feel able to tell anyone so instead I started releasing my anger by playing up at school.'
Eventually unable to cope with her worsening behaviour, her mum put her into care in 2001 weeks before she turned 12.

'They didn't understand what was wrong with me so my family just thought I was out of control and a nightmare. They couldn't cope so I had to go.'
Life in the children's home was tough and Emma had no visitors apart from her father.

'People can't understand why I let him visit me, but without him I had nobody. I was just a frightened little girl.'
Every few months her father would take her into town and tried to win her trust back by buying her cigarettes and alcohol.
When Emma turned 15, her father came to visit with the news that her mother had left him and asked Emma if she would like to leave the children's home and come to live with him.
As a result of the sustained sexual abuse, Emma's behaviour worsened - and her mother, unable to cope, sent her to a children's home

As a result of her father's abuse, Emma became unruly. Unable to cope, her mother sent her to a children's home, aged just 12. Her father was the only one to visit and, when he split from her mother, he persuaded Emma, pictured here in her teens at the height of the abuse, to move into his house where he would rape her
'Naively I thought anything was better than the children's home. I also hoped he had changed as it had been more than three years since he had touched me,' she says now.
In December 2004 Emma moved in to her father's home. At first, Frost did not touch his young daughter. Instead, he insisted the teenager was to be responsible for all the housework.
'He said if I wanted to stay I had to do all the cooking and cleaning. In effect I was taking on my mum's role in the house,' she says.
A few weeks after she had moved in, Emma came home to find Frost drunk. Enraged, he shouted at Emma for leaving him on his own.
The next morning, he came to Emma's room to apologise for losing his temper, and offered her a bottle of Bailey's to make amends.
Emma's father, Christopher Frost, pictured with Emma, right, as a teenager, was found guilty of sexual abuse in 2011 and was sentenced to life in prison

Frost began pouring his young daughter large glasses of the liqueur. Before long, Emma was blind drunk and overwhelmed by nausea.
She fell asleep on her bed and awoke to find her father touching her - but she was too trapped in her drunken stupor to scream or move. When she finally came around, she began piecing together the harrowing events.
'I confronted him but he denied it and said I must have been dreaming. But just days later I woke up to find him touching me again and I lashed out.'
Emma was so frightened that she head-butted her father.
His reaction was to warn her angrily that if she ever lashed out against him again, he would take her back to the children's home.
Terrified Emma felt she had no choice but to comply.
By now, her father's behaviour had grown yet more twisted. He had started calling Emma by her mother's name, and would force her to serve him.
One night in January 2005 he made his daughter get out of bed at one am to cook him a roast dinner.
While she was peeling the vegetables she saw he was lighting candles in the sitting room.
Then he laid a blanket on the floor and called her in to join him. Despite her horrified pleas, Emma's father raped her.
When it was over he ordered her to continue cooking - and then forced her to sit opposite him to eat the meal.
Christopher Frost was sentenced to a minimum 10 years and 10 months and added to the sex offenders register indefinitely

'I knew then that it was some sick fantasy that I was his wife and we were having a romantic night, I felt sick but had nowhere to turn, I've never been so afraid.
That night she was forced to sleep in his bed with him. Life at home became a living hell as the abuse continued.
Against all odds, Emma managed to enjoy brief moments of normality by having secret boyfriends.
'Even though I was being abused, having real boyfriends was my way of not letting dad own me. It was a way of feeling normal,' she says.
Emma was working in a chip shop to raise money to escape when she met Graham Brett, 30. They started dating in secret. But one day, Emma's father followed her when she left the house and confronted them.
'He started screaming at me that I was a slag. Graham thought he was just an over protective dad.
'How could I tell him the truth, that he was jealous of him for being with me?'
Foster dragged his daughter home, where he flew into a rage, smashing plates on his head and shouting: 'Look how much I love you Emma.'
'I was just shouting at him that it was wrong and he was my dad, he wasn't supposed to be doing these things to me,' Emma says.
In the aftermath of his rage, Frost begged his daughter for forgiveness before pleading with her to have sex with him one more time.
'I was so revolted that I turned away because I thought I would be sick. He was begging me not to leave.
'And despite my desperation to escape, I was already thinking I had nowhere to go except the children's home.'
Emma kept in contact with her boyfriend Graham and a few months later fell pregnant.
As her father had undergone a vasectomy, Emma was certain the baby was not his.
When she broke the news to her father, Emma says he broke down in tears, asking his daughter if she was going to leave him.
But shockingly, even now the nightmare wasn't to end. Emma's boyfriend Graham, who was still unaware of his girlfriend's hellish situation, lived with his mother.
When Emma gave birth to a baby daughter nine months later, she had no choice but to return from the hospital to her father's house with her newborn.
'I hated him holding her, but I never left them alone for a second,' she recalls now.
'Even if I went to the toilet I took her with me.'
Emma has managed to find happiness with partner Graham Brett, with whom she now has two daughters. 'They have shown me what a real family is,' she says

Weeks later Emma was given a council flat that she planned to share with Graham.
Soon afterwards, in October 2009, Emma's mother made contact. Emma agreed to meet her - and in an emotional confession, she told her mother everything that had happened.
Emma's appalled mother urged her to call the police.
'Mum was devastated, she had no idea but I wanted to be sure the rest of the family believed me too so I tried to record him admitting it on my phone,' she says.
Next, Emma told Graham. 'He wanted to go straight round but I didn't want dad running away before he could be properly punished.'
A police investigation saw Foster arrested. The trial started on 17 October 2011 and Emma, who had since given birth to another daughter, was called to give evidence from behind a screen.
The jury at Ipswich Crown Court found him guilty of four counts of rape, five offences of indecent assault, sexual activity with a child, and causing a child to engage in sexual activity.
Judge Rupert Overbury told him: All these offences were calculated and planned. The effect of your offending is incalculable.'
On 16 December last year Christopher Foster was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of ten years and ten months. His name was added to the sex offenders register indefinitely.
Emma, who is studying for a degree in psychology so she can help other victims of abuse, said: ' I was relieved but I will have the memories forever. Graham and my daughters have shown me what a real family is. I suffered in silence for too long and I want to help other young women. My psychology degree will help me do that.
As part of her mission to raise awareness and help other victims of abuse, Emma is preparing for a sponsored walk to raise money for the Phoenix Post, a support community campaigning against childhood abuse. She will walk 26 miles on 16 June.

AFRICAN MAN FOUND SOBBING IN THE STREET AFTER 3 DAYS OF SEX WITH GERMAN NYMPHO

"It was hell, I can't walk!" Man found sobbing in street after 36-hour sex ordeal with German nymphomaniac

The woman was arrested last month after another exhausted lover escaped onto a balcony and cried for help

A man was found sobbing in the street by police after his one-night stand demanded too much sex.
The African man broke down in tears outside the woman’s apartment after the 36-hour ordeal in Munich, Germany.
Police confirmed that the exhausted man told them: “I met her on a bus. She invited me back here. Oh God, it was hell. I can’t walk. Please help me.”
The man is believed to be the latest victim of a German nymphomaniac who was arrested last month after forcing her date to make love to her eight times.
Her first victim, Dieter Schulz, was forced to escape from the apartment to raise the alarm when his insatiable lover refused to let him go.
The 43-year-old met the woman in a bar in Munich, Germany, according to German news website The Province.

The pair went back to her apartment where they had sex several times, but when the eager woman demanded more, the exhausted man refused.
When the sex-hungry woman wouldn’t take no for an answer, the man took drastic action.
Desperate Mr Schulz was reportedly spotted on a balcony crying for help after the eager woman demanded more and more sex.
A police spokesman was quoted as saying: “He complied with the woman's wishes another few times so he could finally leave the apartment.
“But when she continued to refuse and demanded even more sex from him, he fled to the balcony and alerted the police.”
Mr Schulz reportedly told police: “You have got to help me. She is trying to kill me with sex. I cannot get out and I cannot go on!”
Incredibly, when police arrived at the apartment, the woman even tried to tempt them into her bedroom.
The woman, who is believed to be 47, has now been taken to hospital for psychiatric observation

MEN ARE GETTING MORE ATTRACTIVE AND MORE MATING SUCCESS THAN WOMEN

  • Characteristics changing 'mating success' of men changing faster than those that affect women
  • Men evolving attractive traits of looks and success to have more partners
  • Having more partners ensures DNA passes on
  • Mencientists studying people in Finland find evidence that natural selection is still taking place
  • Researchers say being rich or poor does not affect success at mating or fertility rates

Darwinian 'survival-of-the-fittest' laws continue to shape human evolution in the modern age, research has found.
Humans are subject to the forces of natural selection just like any other species, say scientists.
Human customs such as marriage have not slowed the drive of natural selection - and men are evolving traits to increase their mating success, which could include such factors as good looks or even intelligence which might help them achieve success
This is because mating with more partners increases the chance of reproductive success for a man - whereas it doesn't for a woman.
A popular misconception is that humans stopped evolving when they took up farming and embraced monogamy.
But evidence from detailed church records of almost 6,000 Finns born between 1760 and 1849 suggests this is not so.
Researchers looked at economic status, births, deaths and marriages to examine four key natural selection factors.
They were survival to adulthood, mate access, mating success and fertility.
They found that the Finns' natural selection opportunities were on a par with those seen in the wild.
Finland has some of the best available data for such research thanks to detailed church records of births, deaths, marriages and wealth status which were kept for tax purposes.

Movement in the country was also very limited until the 20th century.
Differences in early survival and fertility were responsible for most of the variation in fitness, even among wealthy individuals.
Dr Virpi Lummaa, from the University of Sheffield's department of animal and plant sciences, said: 'We have shown advances have not challenged the fact that our species is still evolving, just like all the other species "in the wild".

Men are evolving to be more attractive: This is because mating with more partners increases the chance of reproductive success for a man - whereas it doesn't for a woman

'It is a common misunderstanding that evolution took place a long time ago, and that to understand ourselves we must look back to the hunter-gatherer days of humans.'
Dr Lummaa said evidence had already proved important selection had been taking place in very recent populations.
She said: 'Humans continue to be affected by both natural and sexual selection.
'Although the specific pressures, the factors making some individuals able to survive better, or have better success at finding partners and produce more kids, have changed across time and differ in different populations.'
The new findings are published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
Co-author Dr Alexandre Courtiol, from the Wissenschaftskolleg Institute for Advanced Study in Berlin, Germany, said: 'Characteristics increasing the mating success of men are likely to evolve faster than those increasing the mating success of women.
'This is because mating with more partners was shown to increase reproductive success more in men than in women.
'Surprisingly, however, selection affected wealthy and poor people in the society to the same extent'.

'KILL HIM,HE IS NOT YOUR SON,SO I HIT HIM HARD IN THE NECK SEVERAL TIMES'-SAYS MAN WHO KILLED 1 YR OLD SON AND BURNT WIFE WITH PRESSING IRON

Henry Nnadi, the 38- year-old dry cleaner that killed his 1-year-old son, Ebuka, and burnt his wife, Mercy,36, with hot iron for allegedly sleeping with his 65-year-old father, has finally spoken on the circumstances that led to his beastly act from the confines of his prison cell at Kirikiri, Lagos.
Looking remorseless over the pains he inflicted on his wife of two years, the fair-skinned Henry only showed regrets when the issue of his dead son came up. “That was the worst thing I have ever done in my entire life. When he woke up crying for milk, I looked at him in anger and a voice came saying kill him, he is not your son. In obedience to that voice, I hit him hard on the neck several times.”
Insisting that he was unsure of the paternity of the boy, Henry gave vivid details of what transpired on the fateful Saturday, April 7, 2012. Excerpts:
“I am sure of what I am talking about. My wife, Mercy has been sleeping with my father. Before the incident, I have cautioned her to stop going to my father’s house because I suspected their moves . But she wouldn’t listen. Then one day, when she was about going out, I told her not to leave the house but she disobeyed me and went out. I waited for a while before going straight to my father’s place which is not far from where I live .
Mrs Nnadi at hospital
And to confirm my claim, immediately I arrived there, I knocked and my father opened the door with a towel round his waist. As I made to go in, he prevented me by blocking the entrance with his hand. I do not know how my wife managed to escape . But after waiting for a while, I left and immediately I got home, my wife had reached the house, I laughed and went to smoke to cool my temper. I was keeping all that in mind until that Saturday night.
“As I was ironing my customer’s clothes, I looked at my wife where she was sleeping on the bed and anger surged inside of me. I then heard a voice instructing me to go and ask her why she was sleeping with my father. By then, the iron was very hot and I thought I could use that to scare her.”
The suspect, Henry Nnadi
Burning her with the hot iron
I woke her up and asked her to tell me the truth on how many times she had slept with my father. But she refused to talk. Then the voice came to me again to place the hot iron on her and I did. As I was placing it, she told me she had slept with my father three times.
Immediately she mentioned it, I lost my cool and placed it harder on her out of anger. At that point, the child cried, wanting to suck breast. I looked at him wondering if I was actually his father. I thought to myself that it could be possible my father was responsible for the pregnancy that resulted in his birth.
How I killed my son
At this point the suspect kept quiet, bowed his head, shaking it intermittently in self pity. And when he raised his head, his eyes were filled with tears. Thereafter, he rested his chin on his palm and looked at the sky, muttering. After a long pause, this reporter asked him if he actually killed his son.
In reply, he said, “ that is the worst thing I have ever done in my entire life. When Ebuka woke up from sleep that night, crying for breast milk as he always did, I looked at him in anger and the voice came again saying , ‘kill him, he is not your son!’. In obedience to the voice, I hit him hard in the neck several times.”
Asked to described exactly how he did it, he raised his right hand like a boxer, hitting it severally on his left arm, causing this reporter to move backward, for fear of the unknown.
Continuing, he said, “You know he is a baby and very fragile. When my fist landed on him the first time, he screamed. At that point, the mother lifted her hand to prevent my next fist from landing on the boy , but I planted the hot iron on her hand”. Henry, reportedly landed another fist on the little helpless creature . At the third hit, Ebuka, as gathered, could no longer cry. He was still .
When Henry was asked why he was always beating his wife as claimed by neighbours, he admitted that they have had series of quarrel, most of which was caused by his wife’s alleged clandestine relationship with his father. He posited however that “there is no way a man and a woman would live under same roof without quarreling. It is impossible. Yes, we quarreled and settled” .
Asked if he had any regrets for his action, he replied, “sure , I do, mainly because of the death of my son. Why should a child be killed over an offense he knew nothing about? His death will continue to haunt me all the days of my life. I may not live to even atone for this sin but if by sheer providence I do, I will never forgive myself for taking the life of my innocent boy.
All this is the handiwork of the devil. If I had known, I would have not touched my son that night. I know I am going to die because I have killed my son. If it had been my wife, I would not have bothered much . But my son, ah! I have done the unimaginable” he stated in an emotion- laden tone.
When contacted for his reaction to his son’s claim, 65-year- old Theodore Nnadi described the allegation as baseless and unimaginable, wondering how a father could stoop so low as to sleep with his daughter in-law. The light skinned man swore with both visible and invisible substances, denying ever having any feeling of such towards a woman he considered as a daughter. The father of eight who said his name had been dragged in the mud following the allegation and wondered how on earth a son could mete such injustice on his father.
Recalling with pains how he tried all he could to give his son, Henry, a good future, Pa Nnadi revealed that signs of his present predicament reared its ugly head after Henry’s secondary school.
Hear him, “ After his secondary school , he began to move with irresponsible people and street urchins . In order to keep him busy, I took him to a school of engineering where he specialized in factory generator repairs. But before I knew it, that turned out to be my greatest undoing as he went into snatching of motorcycles from riders.
“He would mount a motorcycle, give the rider his destination. But midway, he would pour pepper into the rider’s eyes, causing him to loose balance and in the process make away with the motorbike and sell same at give -away price. He was arrested in one of the occasions and was imprisoned for eight years.
After he finished serving his jail term, I took him to a church where deliverance was carried out on him. Before everybody in the church, he promised never to go back to his past again. After that, he started the dry cleaning job.”
I warned his wife
“After the introduction ceremony and the wife moved in with him, I started getting series of report on how he was maltreating her. Several times, the matter was reported at Ago police station where he was made to write undertaken never to raise his hand on her again. But he never complied. When the beating became unbearable, I personally told his wife never to return to my son when she traveled to her village last year. She stayed for a while, only to come back because my son, as I later learnt, went to beg her.”
Asked if he actually slept with his daughter-in-law, Mr Theodore screamed in anger, “ how can that be? That is an abomination! Before God and man, I never did that. Ah! This child wants to take me to an unprepared grave. I reject that. It is not my portion .I can never try such disgusting thing in my life. Oh my God, at this age?His intention is to soil my name. Go and ask about me where I live, or even from the village I come from. This is unimaginable. Come to think of it, I have a wife.”
Also asked to clarify his son’s claim that he met his wife in his house where the father blocked the entrance, Pa Nnadi replied, almost in tears, “Only God will judge this matter. This child is a bad child. The wife used to sell pap and she usually brings it to my house where she sold to my wife .
Whenever she is leaving my house, my wife would give her some ingredients because my son was not taking care of her and their baby. For instance, when she gave birth to my grandson , Ebuka, it was one of my daughters that brought out N120,000 for the delivery bill because she gave birth through caesarian. But do you know what happened, my son, Henry, stole out of that money from where it was kept and when asked, he argued that the money was too much, that it ought to have been given to him to buy a motorcycle.
He is a pain in the neck. In fact, he had beaten me before in public, simply because I reprimanded him for fighting with his cousin. Since that incident, my people vowed never to visit his house again. I swear to God, I never did that abominable act. I have passed such stage. Besides, I am a God fearing man. Come to think of it, (grins) I live in that apartment with my wife and my other children. How on earth would that happen”?
Emotions, promises, pour in for burnt housewife
Meanwhile, following Mercy’s story published in Vanguard, some concerned Nigerians and groups have continued to call in, signifying their interest to assist Mercy with the medical bill and a possible transfer to another hospital. Among those that called were Zahara Women Foundation, CENTA For Organizational Development, Bimbo Odukoya Foundation and other individuals from different parts of the country and beyond. But none of them, as at Thursday morning, had made any monetary donations.
For Bimbo Odukoya’s Foundation, it promised to visit mercy at the hospital on Thursday evening with a view to carrying out on the spot assessment and proffer possible medical solution.
Zahara Women Foundation on its part, promised to visit the victim yesterday, (Friday),where its co-ordinator who called in from Canada said the foundation would do all within its reach to give Mercy legal backing as well as playing a role on her medical expenses.
Dr Eze of New Revolution hospital located in Ago, Okota area of Lagos hinted that although Mercy was responding to treatment, there are fears that some sensitive parts of the affected area were still to get healed. “For instance, her breast and chest region and her thigh close to the vagina are part of the critical areas.”
Vanguard Crime Guard observation revealed that fluid was still pouring out from under the breast , which seemed to be defiling treatment. The cause, as gathered, was because it was not exposed to air. As a result, the region is always damp with the burns causing sores. She is still going through excruciating pains, with serious anesthetics being administered to her on daily basis.
But the doctor assured that things would take its normal shape with time, disclosing that part of the burns on her back, stomach and hand were getting healed. The doctor also disclosed that as at Thursday evening, only N60,000.00 has been donated by a lady who pleaded anonymity.
But for Mercy to get back quickly on her feet again, she needs funds, first to clear the backlog of close to N600,000 which the hospital claimed was her medical bill. Out of this amount, the hospital said Mercy’s father in-law was only able to pay the sum of N50,000. Presently , Pa Theodore who owns a mini boutique along Ago-Palace Way is finding it difficult to foot the bill.
Crime Guard reliably gathered that the 65-year-old man had resorted to borrowing from people in order to ensure Mercy gets back on her feet again. Plans, as gathered, is on the pipeline to open an account for Mercy where well- meaning Nigerians are enjoined to pay in their widow’s mite, as this will, no doubt, go a long way in ensuring Mercy’s speedy recovery.
And if this is not done on time, there are fears that the burns, particularly in the sensitive areas, could be affected, which unfortunately, can be disastrous for the helpless woman.
Meanwhile, her husband has been charged to the Ebute-Meta magistrate court, where he appeared last Tuesday. But the case could not be heard as his file with charge no G/23/2012 was referred to the Directorate of Public Defender (DPP) for advice.
However, while waiting for the account to be opened, concerned individuals can make their donations in person to the hospital- New Revolution hospital located in Ago, Okota, Lagos or reach Vanguard Crime Editor through: emmadozie@hotmail.com or 08023145281.
